You're really finished ...? No ini mini miny tiny surprise left ... Oh well, we'll just have to live with that magnificent build you made. One thing I know ... you will have a very hard time to improve on your next build

Cheers mate

Hi Carl

Almost there, but not quite. I've still got a few minor items to go. For example, there's the five-bladed propeller (well, two of them actually) and the two rudders.

Trying to do the props is a nightmare, but I'll give them a go.

Thanks for the compliments! Greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Patrick

Hi folks

Thanks for all your likes and comments!

Woohoo!!!!  After a few failed attempts, I've finally managed to pull together two reasonably passable 5-bladed propellors for Majellan.  At the moment, they're temporarily fitted in the hull.

Have a squizz at the photos and you'll see that they look the part, albeit maybe not totally accurate in terms of the directions of the blade's pitch, (i.e. I think that the real ship would have left and right handed props to counteract the torque...maybe.. don't quote me on it, because I really have no idea what I'm talking about ;)  ;)  ;) ), but at least they look ok from about a metre away. :D  :D  :D

Cheers and all the best!

Patrick

Patrick, those props are great. What material are they made of?  Usually, but not always, on twin prop boats/ships there is one clockwise and one counter clockwise prop arranged to turn up in the middle.  So the clockwise prop would be on the starboard side.  But like I say that is not always done.

The prop's remark from Bob, that was what I was wondering about when I saw your splendidly made propellors in the pictures. Well done Patrick. Couldn't do it any better meself, not to say I couldn't do it at that scale

Wow, Patrick! Just wow!

I just found your log and saw some of the pics at the start.  I thought, "How in the heck is he going to pull off this miracle?"  Now I know.

Very impressive! :pirate41:

Hi Bob

Thanks for your comments. The propeller hubs and blades are made from thin styrene rods. They're a bit fiddly, but fun.

One thing's for sure though, I highly doubt that I'll want to make another one that has the opposite pitch. It did my head in, just trying to do these two!

I look forward to seeing your props, as well.

Have a Good'un.

Cheers

Hi Carl

Many thanks! Following Bob's comments, I know that I really should make another prop with the opposite pitch.....but...I'm not sure that I'm that much of a glutton for punishment! Who knows, maybe one day I may change my mind, but not yet.

Have a great weekend!

Cheers

Hi Julie

Thanks for dropping in and enjoying Majellan's journey! Your comments are greatly appreciated.

I've been following your J Class build in the Kit Forum as well. She's a beauty and your wood working skills are exemplary.

I've also built a model of another J Boat, Rainbow, (see the link below), so I know just how captivating these giant racing machines are!

I hope you can continue to follow along.

All the best!

Cheers

Thanks Denis and everyone else for their comments and Likes!  Greatly appreciated.

Well.....guess what?  All of a sudden, Majellan's all grown-up; having graduated from the building stand, to her final permanent berth.

Yes, folks, I've finally made the display stand for her.  In doing so, I wanted to create the effect of Majellan 'floating in mid-air', unencumbered by any visible signs of support.  This effect was achieved by supporting Majellan on four thin posts of piano wire, which are almost invisible when viewed from afar.

I hope you like the floating effect.

I've also added the two rudders at the rear.  Not long to go now, folks, before Majellan's finished!!!  :pirate41:

Cheers

Patrick

Looks great Patrick.  I like the floating effect.  It looks to me like it's finished - but I'm interested to see what you still feel needs to be done.

She looks great!

Interesting implementation of the "floating" type of display.

I was thinking about hanging the model on a thin and transparent fishing line, mounted to the top part of the display case. Have you tried something similar?
