HMS Tiger 1747 by Siggi52 - 1:48 - 60 gun ship from NMM plans

Recommended Posts

I did. and as I said, I have no answer. I just do not know.

I think some speculation around the subject could be fun though.

If there is no surviving data,  then whatever you decide should stand.

(as long as it does not involve something like an electric winch and a Honda generator 😉)

I apologize if absurdist humor and exaggeration does not translate.

Good Evening Siggi;

In addition to the tackle shown in Druxey's post no. 983 above, the fish davit would probably have been moved around using the fore burton tackles and/or the yard-arm tackles. The burton tackles were suspended from the mast below the lower mast cross-trees; and the yard-arm tackles were hung from the end of the yards, and could be pulled inwards by means of the tricing line. Rotating the yard using the braces would have moved any object suspended from the yard-arm tackles.

Burton tackles are not often shown rigged on models, and yard-arm tackles, if shown, are normally triced up tight to the underside of the yard.

All the best,

Mark

Previously built models (long ago, aged 18-25ish) POB construction. 32 gun frigate, scratch-built sailing model, Underhill plans.

On the drawing board: POF model of Royal Caroline 1749, part-planked with interior details. My own plans, based on Admiralty draughts and archival research.

Hello,

thank you Mark. That was also one of my thoughts, but because I have no idea about rigging I discarded it. All others also many thanks for your comments and likes.

Here now some pictures of the now more or less ready fore castle. When I looked at the pictures, I realised that I have to install the gun port lids. So that would be the next action here, and when that is ready, the quarter deck and waist is the next building site. The anchors will come later.

Love the blue garden dragon. The ship is also nice :D

Brilliant job so far. In a way it's a pitty you won't do the rigging, but on the other side it does put more focus on your brilliant hull work and decoration.

Hello,

now have also the first two gun ports there lids.

We make now a little break at the shipyard for holiday and other obligations. I forget to mention, the painter had an accident. He broke his right wrist, but it is healing and he will be fit again soon. ;)

Sorry to hear about the painter's broken wrist. I hope his broken wrist doesn't interfere with raising a glass or two.

Hello,

because of the bad weather here, rain and 17°C, we are back at the shipyard. The carpenters cut the beams for the quarter deck last week and installed them today.

Beautiful work, Siggi!  Those carpenters really made a lot of progress on the quarterdeck beams!  Your model is a joy to follow.  Enjoy that 17 degree rainy weather.  We were in Orlando, FL a week ago, dying from weather in the high 30s all week!

Hello,

oh you poor boys. Stay here for a while, and you would love these temperatures. ;) Today with a little sunshine between the showers and 16°C!

At the yard we build today only the under construction for the gratings and the ladder way. The two scuttles in front of the carpenters should be for the top tackle. What ever that is, but have they a lid? At the models they are not build, because there is the deck mostly open or build without these scuttles.

The next thing will be then the stern, first at least up to this deck :(

Hello,

now after three weeks of summer, it is cold and rainy again :( So, not to see the disaster, I'm back at the shipyard.

The upper counter rail and there supporting parts. Just to say it, it was't easy. But at least I think I got it.

And here the parts who did't make it. To fill the space between the lower and upper rail would also be a challenge

Your fine weather is affecting my enjoyment of the hobby. May it rain and snow for the next six months in Hamburg so that we can see progress on your magnificent model.

That is unfair Greg. We had so much rain in July that we need more sun, not to get depressive. Then I would't leave my bed

Last week I made a tour through the „Lüneburger Heide (heath)“, that was something that motivate me.

Hello,

Greg, it rained the whole night. Was that your work? ;)

So far for today. When I saw the last picture, I know what I have to do tomorrow. Or immediately

Jaager, this is a model. Not a ship that should round Cap Horn. This model will see water only fall from heaven through a window. So relax. And yes, not all beams going through in one piece. I had to cut them and rearrange some of them. And what you call a transom, is a plank when I understand you right.

Are there somewhere pictures of your models here in the forum? I found only the La Renommee and that is just the hull, together with some others.

Hello,

so far for today. The counter is planked. For tomorrow stands more sanding on my plan.

Theodosius, thank you for your nice comment

Jaager, I'm sorry, but I could't follow you. At the windows are no right angles and nothing is horizontal or vertical, except at the window in the middle. The paper at the plywood is from the original plan, so I think I'm right when I'm building it this way. At my post #1006 you will see a larger part of the plan. Jaager, I know what I'm doing here, if not I ask.

Beautiful work Siggi! Everything looks perfect! Your Tiger build is my primary source of inspiration for my Portland model.

Hello,

after we had last week 17-19°C as highes temperatures, we have today 27°C and it should go up to the 30s! Is that normal?

So at the shipyard was not so much action. The upper rail did't really cooperate, and with the paint it was the same  But for now I think it is done.

Tomorrow I would start with the lower finishings.

Hello,

the weather gets cooler, so the carpenters where busy today and cut out the lower finishings.

DSC02549.thumb.jpg.73ae1d4cd35f06338ce35908a8a4ef9f.jpg

then fitted these pieces to the ship

DSC02551.thumb.jpg.6beae1cfdbcf246c5683687e51f9ef9d.jpg

and at last cut out the approximate shape

DSC02553.thumb.jpg.b0ba806d3e3fbacc48626f973592db30.jpg

The shipwright was pleased with the result.

The shipwright should be pleased as the carpenters are doing excellent work.
