I have it now mate, it turned up in the post today,  I just need to find a way of holding the sub that gives me an easy way of spraying it with the rattle can.

Yep  I have done similar - the top of the sail is open at the moment, so I managed to find one of my brushes where the handle fitted inside with a quite tight fit, I ran some gaitor pva down inside around the handle, with any luck it will hold the brush handle enough tomorrow  so I can hold it to spray with.

Then when dry I should be able to cut away the handle to allow the top of the sail to be fitted.

the sail {as you call it} is called the conning tower.    the periscope,  communications,  and main hatch are located here.   on some subs,  some form of armament would be located there as well.   I'm sure there will be a deck gun somewhere fore or aft of the conning tower........I'm not sure if there are hatches on the deck,  but those you put on are likely missile tubes {not usually that close to the conning tower though}.   Piet knows more than I do........I'm sure he'll be along soon and can fill you in better.  Kevin could as well.   glad to see your on the move again

There are no deck guns on modern subs as far as I know. Gotta go back to WW2 for those.

look outs on the bridge will carry SLR or possibly SMG to protect the ships company at times like hands to bathe, or when passing through close narrow strips of water like the suez canal 

 

HMS Andrew was the last British sub to be fitted with a deck gun but only for the indonesia-malaysia troubles in 1964

I decided to give her a complete makeover, she has had a refit and new lick of paint and shortly ready to go back into service.

Unless you sing like my oldest son who could not carry a tune if his life depended on it. He ended up playing drums instead. Even did it professionally off and on and until he moved was playing a few times a year in a couple of clubs and contests with a few other doctors who made up a band in their spare time. Luckily being a doctor doesn't require having a singing voice.

 

Anything above that level of singing i can put up with for at least short times. If you go beyond that I will just turn down the volume on my keyboard!

Haven't heard OC's singing voice yet, so couldn't say with any certainty I like or dislike it. But I do like his latest paint job.

Maybe you need to record a singing audition for us, OC, and post it here. I double-dog dare 'ya.

I wont scare anyone - so I will relent from singing,  I used to be in a band in the 80s  but thats another story.

Right  - more work on the sub this afternoon,  I masked and re painted the top anti-slip black paintwork,   then I turned my attention to the sail/conning tower top section, this has multiple devices - periscope etc, theres were cut from the spue  and cleaned up before placing in thier respective positions, I also painted the inside white as this will be seen from the top.

I thought the same  - I might try an take a couple of them away, and thin the rest a bit with a sanding stick.

Really? Well, there you go, we have something in common. I too was in bands in the 60's, though. Jazz, blues, and dance bands. No singing, I played the sax.
