Collingwood, the suburb in Melbourne (Australia) is actually named after Cuthbert Collingwood. So you could say, indirectly, Collingwood, the team, is named after him also.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you OC.  Going from single decker to a two deck looks to be a challenge.  I think you're up to it.

Thank you mark,    sure is a challenge  - first thing I need to do is to  create accurate 1/100 scale keel section/s  and the  associated frames  that I will need to first find some accurate scale frame section plans, then make paper templates that I can use to change and upscale the peregrine frames,   then I will need to locate the correct positioning of the frame slots in the keel section/s  and  cut then out.

Lots of drawing work before I can even start building.

Good evening all,    first step today was to convert some dimensions  to 1/100 scale  on one of the plans I have,   I will then overlay this drawing by hand onto my Peregrine  plans that are already at 1/100 scale,   this will give me a guide  to how much upscaling the keel will need.

you invite.........I come :)   I have an idea for your length dilemma........if the kit your modifying has a three piece keel {  bow stem,  stern stem,  separated by a keel spine,  you can likely do it from the mid ship.   you will need the measurement of the bulkhead spacing to figure out the length,  and the number of the center bulkhead.   say the center bulkhead is #5........create a second one #5a.  factor in the spacing for the bulkhead......if the spacing is 48 mm.......you will be adding 48 mm to the overall length of the keel.   I did this when I built the hull for the trawler Syborn.......you can check out the log on page ten,  here in the scratch build forum.   I don't have a lot left to do on her........seeing her that far back....WOW,  I gotta get her back on the table and finish her ;)

If I was sensible I would just convert the plan to the correct 1/100 scale  in windows paint, then save it as a 1/1 pic file  then  print it out on some 20inch paper,   but I have no ink  for my printer.

A bit more TD work in Paint  -  I have the frames sorted now and scaled to 1/100scale  same as the keel,  I will  try to get these printed off as they will give me an accurate plan to work off.

So  no time like the present  I opened it up and made a start putting some paint on the upper hull parts and other hull parts,  I chose a slightly grey/black color that is supposed to simulate a burned wood affect.

I will be building her  (very slightly differently - well A lot)  from my original  plan,  as I will be using the Fantastic kit as a base  but adding many wood parts including  - masts and spars, decking,  details  and  rope shrouds and all running gear.

I am not sure if she still belongs here in the scratchbuild section (modes let me know what you think)

I am really looking forward to this build as the kit is Fantastic  and aided with  extra detailing it should be a stunning  ship.

Hi OC

With those huge stern gallery windows have you considered lighting the great cabin with an LED or two? Looking forward to what you are able to do with it. The site has needed a good Pirate Ship build!:10_1_10::dancetl6::cheers:

That would have been very cool  if I could have run them off  tiny solar pannels hidden inside the roof window, as I wouldn't want wires running outside the hull.

I suppose that could be possible except you would only have power to the light(s) when you have light available not in the dark when you really want it.

I am sure you could make it so the wires exit through the keel, or you locate a power jack plug there and hide the power source in the stand. It is coming up Christmas and if your stores are anything like ours they will be overflowing with the cheap Chinese micro lights, (About the size of a grain of rice) that run on three AAA batteries and cost about $5, (3.81 GPB) If not they are readily available on eBay and elsewhere.

Good  evening all,  today I started  working on some of  pearls details - in the kit the molded rear bulkhead that contains the captains cabin door and windows is wrongly shaped infact even the door is best suited to a mouse as its way to small,  so first thing to do was a bit of butchery  by cutting out the curved section,  I found using my sharp scalpel was best to do this, after cutting it away I decided to apply some heat with a hairdryer to the piece removed, then on the table I was able to flaten it, then after trimming some of the ends I was able to glue it back in place (but as a flat bulkhead not rounded).

Next was to increse the size of the mouses door so humans could use it,  I filed it till it gave me a scale size of abut  5.5 ft tall  and  3 ft wide,   this will have a double door attached to it after I make them   and also a few windows.

I also decided it would be fitting to make the bulkhead fitted with wood planks - so I set about measuring-cutting and fitting these - I have gone as far as a plank or two from the deck  - I think its a nice improvement over the plastic bulkead.

Here are a few pics showing the instructions with the wrong curved bulkhead and the flatened fitted bulkhead then the planking going on.

Evening shipmates,  more progress with the cabin bulkhead  - I fitted a wood facier around the curved roof section, and while this was sticking I decided to attack the door frame,   this has a curved top but after several attempts at bending some 2x1mm  strip against the grain  with water and heat tool  - no good, so plan number two  was to do the sides sepaerate and the top by two pieces joined together then sanded to shape.

While this was setting I turned my attantion to building the first of four windows - I went with square windows  but decided to fit some clear plastic behind to simulate glass  - this was done by laying the plastic sheet on the cutting mat and adding each window frame in turn to the sheet, then with gorilla glue and seven frames later a window was formed.

I touched up the rear of the window with black paint then when dry glued the first one in place on the bulkhead,   next of I added some wood trim to the top that follows the line under the curved rail.

So next off will be three more windows  -

A few pics to show the progress.

Good evening all  - sincere thanks for all the likes and comment.

Right More work on the cabin bulkhead and its nearly finished - I made and fitted all four windows including making the two outer ones 2mm thiner, I then set about making the two doors - these were made by fitting two thin planks onto a cut piece of card, I then did the same to the other side  casing the card between two layers of planking,  I then sanded the profiles on the top and added some scrap wood to represent hinges, I then  fitted a couple of braces on the back and glued them in place.

Just the two pictures.

A small update folks in between attending to a birthday  day for a family member  -  so  I have assemled both bottom hull parts and added the two supports inside,  then I mixed a brown/grey/black paint  and gave the lower hull several coats,   after this had dried I dug out my tamiya acrylic flat top coat and gave the hull and other pre-painted sections a coating with the flat clear.

Oh,   I also gave the cabin bulkhead a couple of coats of my made up black.

Just the two pics today.
