I’ve  completed all the rigging.

Just a flag or two left.

I’ll prep her for more professional images a bit later.

My wife has some professional photography backdrops she used when she used to do photography.   I'm going to select one suited for a quality photoshoot and take some pics of her later this week.

I'm stunned, that I'm finished with the rigging.  I will go around her and touch up any paint and finish off any weathering details I might have overlooked.

I'll also begin the planning for building her a case.

Rob,

Your Glory of the Seas is absolutely stunning!  The HO figures really add life you your model. I never tire of looking at your model photos.  Did you ever consider compiling all of the build photos and narrative into a modelling book documenting your journey building the Glory of the Seas?  I'd buy one and I think many other modelers would as well.

Absolutely Outstanding!!!

Thanks John.  I have not considered it, but I believe the one to ask...because he has the aptitude and developed skill at such things is Clipperfan.  His documentation of our journey in rediscovering Glory's true self was well chronicled in his paper forwarded to Nautical Research Guild for publication. However a separate documentation of this particular build would be within his skill set.

I'm sure he and I could corroborate and come up with something.

Rob,

When we originally discussed submitting a Nautical Research Journal article, I remember discussing submitting a follow up one including completion of your magificent replica. That was pending response for my first submission. However, since the editor sent receipt confirmation that it met their July 1st submission deadline, I've heard nothing since. From their publication calendars, the next issue should be December. I will reach out to see if the editor can let me know if the article might appear then, in a later issue or not at all...

Meanwhile, Rob if you want we can collaborate on a 2nd follow up or do a plan for displaying your model in a local museum. As for developing an actual fully illustrated book, nothing would excite me more. Others can correct me if I exaggerate but I honestly can't think of another more thoroughly documented, examined and reconstructed vessel than McKay's Glory of the Seas.

Thanks everyone, for the fine comments and compliments.  It's a surreal moment actually.

I moved along at a neck breaking speed and now it's all over....stopped.

My focus now will be to contact the local museum and see if they are willing to display her.  The novel notion is that she lived her last years here in the Tacoma/Seattle area and was probably a regular sight for those who traveled the docks.  I will include all my artifacts and any other related subjects...to include(with permission) a signed copy of Michael Mjelde's books on Glory of the Seas.  We'll see what comes of it.  I will surely keep everyone abreast of any news.

Now I will perform a good field day in the shop and do some rearanging....then I'll put Glory back on the bench and cover her in protective plastic to keep the cobb webs away.  While it's determined what will be her fate.

Again...thank you to everyone who contributed and encouraged me along...and to those who simply watched and enjoyed Glory of the Seas coming alive and regaining her rightful place as Donald McKay's last and probably his paramount clipper creation.

Folks have been asking for a comparison shot of Glory in SanFran in 1877.    The image I used as a model.

Will this do? You’d think I colorized the image.

Rob, that one image is simply amazing! It exceeds expectations. This proves "beyond the shadow of a doubt" that besides the obvious fact that you are indeed a hell of a model shipwright, all of our concerted efforts to correctly reinterpret all facets of McKay's last glorious Clipper have resulted in the most accurate replica conceivable! All I can say is.... wow, just wow!!!! That and it's been an honor and one of the most exciting experiences in my life to collaborate with you, Vlad, Druxey and every other member of this revolutionary enterprise!

I know……when I reviewed the image I just about fainted.  I couldn’t stop laughing at hour nearly exact the image took.  Even the background clipper was positioned correctly.

I agree….this image vindicates our years of work and study.    Glory is alive!

Superlative job, Rob! Simply spectacular.

I particularly like the "cleat" base. It's a clever solution and very appropriate.

I presume the helm must be in the after deckhouse. Do you know how they dealt with that? Was there a speaking tube on deck that was used to yell commands to the helmsman below? Perhaps this was discussed before and I missed it. It's just something I'd never thought about until I "walked the decks" of this wonderful model.

Thank very much Bob.  Your praise means a lot to me.
From the helm house these was a convenient stairway leading down to the large cabin and quickly to the captains cabin.

Bob Cleek, McKay's original Wheelhouse design had the ship's wheel in a recessed area in front of the wheelhouse. Effectively, the helmsman was still completely exposed to the elements in front.  Back wall and two sides about 3' deep were all the protection the original design afforded.

When the wheelhouse was extended to the back of the rear companionway, they had the foresight to install 4 large windows in front. Ship's wheel and helmsman's position never changed from the position on the poop deck. Big difference was now the sailor manning the helm was completely protected.

Rob, I like this image even better. My only issue (there always seems to be one) 😉 the background vessel needs to be raised, since it looks disturbingly like it's foundered. I realize you want to avoid it being a distraction but to me the current position looks.... unnatural.
