😬 Well, I almost completely FUBARed this model. Having glued up the internal formers for the right wing (pics later), I commenced gluing up the same for the left wing. Each wing structure consists of about 16 pieces -- pretty impressive framing for a card model. As I got down to the last two parts for the left wing, something seemed off. And then I noticed it: I had inadvertently and incorrectly oriented the two main spars, causing the second wing to not be a left wing but rather a second right wing! Yikes!! Happily, the carpenter's glue had not completely set, and I was able to get the wing disassembled and re-assembled properly. Whew -- that was a close one! 😮

That might be true, but for the person flying it, that's not true if they intend to walk away from the landing.

Landing a plane = Plane meets ground.....

This is easy to do provided one can get it up in the first place....

All things that go up must eventually come down..... (Sir Isaac Newton)

And no nothing is essential to making that happen..... As with all planes it will eventually happen no matter what anyone does....

The main thing is that a man can influence how that is accomplished..... and I imagine it becomes a serious interest if the man happens to be inside when it comes down....

Finally an update. Have been working on this project slowly, interspersed with with bits of boat building. I now have White Tail's fuselage completed to the same stage as Spanish Nationalist. Remind me not to build any more airplanes with W engines -- three cylinder head covers per plane got kind of tedious. 😬

Okay, here is a little update. First of all, I just came off a two week spell of having essentially zero energy for modeling. First I had a routine outpatient procedure done, after which I immediately came down with COVID-19. Now despite having previously joked that in the event of COVID I would just enjoy time off work and build models for two weeks, the truth is that all I felt like doing was laying around and watching TV. On a positive note, I also lost most of my appetite and shed 10 pounds -- yay!! Overall my symptoms were mild, but I was hit hard by low energy and chest congestion, which made me feel constantly winded. So, all I managed to get done during this time was finish the wing, vertical stabilizer, and rudder for Spanish Nationalist.

1165280392_pws21.thumb.jpg.a3e953893e3b6b8d2a7dba36bb730e0a.jpg

This is not the best wing I have ever done, partly due to the wing having so many skin sections, resulting in a finished wing with 14 longitudinal seams, eight in the small middle section alone. Seams are always a booger to do well and always seem to be visible, no matter how much care is used in the attempt. So 14 of them is a bit of a problem. This visual hiccup is something I have noticed in other finished builds of this particular kit, even though they were otherwise very good. For comparison, each wing skin on my aborted Curtiss Hawk build was a single piece, one left and one right, with no longitudinal seams. It makes a big difference.

BTW, part of this sequence was accomplished with the mysterious new klej (glue) I ordered from Poland. On a hunch, I tried it out on some scrap card stock and confirmed my suspicion that yep, it is just contact cement, albeit in a tube rather than in a bottle as we are accustomed to seeing it in this country. When used in the proper manner for contact cement, it works quite well, but it's not the "Miracle Card Modeling Glue" some of us had hoped for.

As an addendum to this update, I'll note that having a respiratory infection like COVID and working around very fine epoxy resin dust are probably not the best combination of activities, so needless to say I didn't get any work done on the Sassafras 12 over the last two weeks, either, so an update on that project will be delayed.

Cheers!

You could blame it on the wine, Chris. You still made quite a good job of it, if you don't mind me saying. I would look at the model, and most likely find me something simpler to build.

Finally time for an update. I don't know why, but this 2-for-1 build is taking me twice as long as a regular build. 🤔😆 Anyways, I do a little here, a little there, just plodding along. The enormous parts count for the wing didn't help speed things up any. So, here's the wing for White Tail. Once again, the 7-piece set of skins for the center section defeated all of my efforts to obtain a neat result -- oh, well.

Looks good Chris, just one question though...

Doesn't Nationalists wing look about a scale foot shorter than White Tails? Or is it just the perspective of the pic making it appear that way?

Bingo! If one were a scale foot shorter than the other, I would have had much more to say about the two kits -- and not nice things, if you get my point. 😉

P.S. Last night I finished the horizontal and vertical stabilizer components for White Tail same as for Spanish Nationalist, so now the two planes are at the same point in their build sequences.
