  1. Remco....Redo's! My dear Dutch friend Remco, when you start re-doing your re-do's, you will be in MY CLASS!
  2. Progress report on Mayflower #2.... 1:60th scale I've been spending much more time on the larger build just trying to get it to begin taking shape. All decks are now planked and tree nailed and a first finish has been applied. All bulkheads are also complete and light finish applied.
  3. Progress update on Mayflower #1.... 1:76th scale The masts are sitting loosley at this point, thus the Mizzen preventor stay is temporarily tied off to the railing. In the process of creating shrouds for the main and fore masts.... plan to install channels for these tomorrow.
  4. Don't know much about sailing, but these are so beautiful I want's me one just to sit in the driveway and look at.
  5. Reading Piet's comment regarding "fancy tools".....much in agreement, aside from the fact that personally, I am very much a "tool guy". You name it, there's likely at least two of them in my shop. Woodworker For over 40 years....hell, I just love tools that make sawdust....always have. Dave
  6. Just now tuning in on this magnificent build.....like everyone else, I am lost for words. As beautiful as the overall ship is, the carvings just steal the show. This could be a model dump truck and we would not even notice. SPECDAMNTACULAR!!! Thank you Kay for sharing with us. Question.....Your carving skills....this did not just happen with this building of HMS Royal William. What is the background of your being such a MASTER wood carver? Dave
  7. Great job on the bricks Augie. A little sanding dust in the joints for mortar will really make it pop. As for the checkerboard pattern in the great cabin....I used some glossy finished card stock with good results. Nice job mate. Dave
  8. Hi Rusty: Your work is top notch as always. Really enjoying watching the progress on this developing classic by Chuck. Looking forward to when it becomes available to the market. Dave
  9. Mike: Very nice work. So what was the reasoning for the extremely oversized yards on this ship? Never seen anything like this. Dave
  10. Really neat work Greg. You've got a great scratch build coming together there. Dave
  11. Michael....your La Couronne is absolutely beautiful. Makes me want to build her a third time. Dave
  12. Michael.....I guess I'm confused by the photo's.... Is the last photo above your finished work? Dave
  13. Like Piet, I think the question of scale is absolutely critical in scratch building..... 1:50 being the least you should consider. Dave
  14. Pete, The finishes and the sharp contrasting colors really pop. Beautiful....just beautiful. Dave
  15. Hi Nils: So glad I have run across your beautiful work. I really love the cutaway hull....really enjoy learning new techniques from master builders such as yourself. Thanks for sharing. Dave
  16. Why is it that ship's stoves are always so darned impressive? Your's is great!
  17. Thank you Alex for the fantastic "how to" class on deadeye fabrication. I am learning so much from your postings. Your photos are excellent.
  18. Props are amazing Piet. Have a nice safe trip to see those grand kids. Ours are 1,000 miles away. Looking forward to your next update. Dave
  19. The dead eyes are really nice Mark....links turned out great. Best part, you will not have to tie all those clove hitches.
  20. Hi Mark: I enjoyed going through your build log. Very nice work. I definitely agree with you about 1:48 scale. Currently working at 1:60th and actually wishing I had gone to 1:50th. Thanks for sharing. Dave
  21. Learn something new each time I visit this incredible build. Thanks again Ed
  22. So this is the work bench project you have been telling me about. Very nice....would not have expected anything less out of you. Dave
