Nice work Nenad. Don't you just hate when small parts try to commit suicide like that? Cheers and have a good trip- 4,152 replies

She's a splendor to look at Augie! I hope there was not too much loss of vital bodily fluid after the mishap.

Good catch on the angles Marc. I'm probably wrong about this, but it looks like the orientation of some of the dead eyes' holes are upside down. Aren't the holes supposed to be "one down-two up" on the channels, and vice-versa, on the shrouds, and accordingly lined up with the angle? Cheers

Nice bit of engineering on the swivel-mounts Brian, and taking the future rigging into account.

Thanks for the explanation of the Spanshackle Ring Danny. Wasn't quite sure how it was secured inboard. Wow! They say the devil's in the details and there's sure lots and lots of them on this build. Cheers

Maria you might want to start by contacting the maker of the kit to see if the plans are available for purchase, or check Ebay and Amazon for the complete kit. There might be copyright issues in acquiring them any other way.

Nice job on the chain-plates Robb! That part #145 looks like it would be made from 2 pieces and be glued to each side of the Jib Boom from what I can see on the plan.

She sure is a pretty ship to feast my eyes on Chuck. That fashion piece is going to be a tough call since it looks really good just as it is,. but I'm sure whatever you decide will look great.

So that's how a "Fish Davit" works. What a great detail to add to an already impressive build.

I'm like you Jay. I miss the days when the average guy could fix a car themselves, if you just had some basic tools. Now you'd have to have a degree in electrical engineering, and $40,000 in diagnostic equipment. Guess they figured they didn't like us making their cars last for 20 or 30 years when they could be selling us another one.

Have a great vacation with your friends Nenad. Have plenty of beer while you're walking through the woods, but keep your eyes toward the ground. Bears do crap in the woods.- 4,152 replies

That second coat made the difference Dennis. They look fine now. A nice bit of diagnostic work in getting the air-brush working again.

Nice work on the planking Mark! Pretty interesting. Didn't know about the French foot being larger, so after looking it up, I found that they used what they were calling the "King's foot" type of measurement system for over a thousand years, even though it did vary back and forth somewhat over the years. For a long time, including the 18th century, 1 foot was about 12.86 inches. Learn something every day. Now I need to ask if there's a charge for all this knowledge I'm picking up here! All I have right now is just a few Peso's. Cheers

Yeah---Re-do's are a necessary evil, and kind of depressing, but after it's all said and done, the reward is worth the effort when a plan comes together and you end up with a better result for it.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
