  1. Steadily getting things done. both sides I have finished the big ropes and putting irons. Now just the shrouds (?)

I really have to get back into english terminology again.

I also started to machine the lion for the front figurehead. Followers know I am into CNC for building the ornaments.

  2. I have started again as said. As the ship has been finished from 'wood' point of view I started the rigging.

I will not finish the ship in full. I intend to do a sort of 'while laying in harbour for great maintenance".

So no sails, guns out. That means I will rigg only the main rigging.

I have no experience in knotting so it will be learn by doing...

    Enjoy the day.  Hans.

I read that you were harassed by a member on a previous forum. That happened to me when I was on the model building forum in the Netherlands. Eventually I left and now feel more at home on this forum. It may be about the same person that has caused many people to leave. Was his first name Stephan?

Ridiculous that something like this happens. I can imagine that he is very jealous of your expertise.

I think you do a great job and hope to hear more from you! Really beautiful.

    Constant

    Yeps. It was him.....

I recently picked up building again after an extensive downtime. I do remeber a Constant from that forum yes.

  4. Finished the starboard side. On to the next.

I will fit 1 or 2 gun carriages at a later stage. Just to show how they were done/placed. I already said I want to build a kind of Harbour rig although not determined how that will look. So I will develop that as I proceed.

    Hi all,

Hope you are doing well as modelling season after summer has really started.

New products are listed on web but not all.

    Check: https://www.hobbymill.eu

    Some updates:

    1) HMS Winchelsea is now offered also as Boxwood version. Listed price 322 EUR

    2) Syren Ship Model Companys Cheerful 1806 wood package with milled stripes has been added:

    - Boxwood version - 170 EUR

    - Yellow cedar version - 130 EUR

    3) American holly has arrived and looks great. It truly is white with almost no visible grain (sry for bad photos).

As its not a big amount and each piece is different dimension its offered based on request. If someone is interested in full blanks then feel free to contact me.

    - Im still waiting feedback on stabilized hornbeam. When i sent in the final order then supplier just disappeared, lets hope i catch him soon.

    - Light pear (stock running low) supplier went trough his whole lot and came back with no superprime blanks (i respect the honesty when they said this isnt the quality you want). But luckily i found after weeks of searching an other one. I just sent them order and lets hope i get it soon.

    - Saw blades....yes interesting turn of events....

So its been really hard to find suitable blades even with adapters here in EU. I finally found supplier who makes them by order with clients modifications. I got some pieces with D100 that cut really well. I had problem before with boxwood and hornbeam thicker than 7mm but these worked really well. I will order some 80mm ones also as i think those are even better. At some point when im sure myself that the blades are really good then it will be available for orders also. Only reserve is that you must buy sheets also or be existing client so i dont become supplier for blades. Im still testing if hollow ground (0,2mm less than teeth) helps with cutting or not.

Contact me directly here or by email if there are any questions etc.

Hi, Is there an update on the milling blades? As I own a Byrnes saw and my blades are running out I am searching for new blades in the EU.

    Rgds Hans.

  6. Well its been a while. As said in january I had a break. I recently picked up again.
Not as often as I would like, but every week i get something done again.

First thing I did was finishing the transom. I did de sculptures again on the right scale on the CNC as I done them before but found them just too small.

After that is tarted to work on the gunport hinges. I tried metal first but didnt like it. So next step was to design them into CNC.
I am happy with the results. I will finish both sides before I will head on to the 'roping' business.

    Hi Hans,
Simply very, very beautiful work on 'the ship' of us Dutchies. I hope the negative feeling about that person's negative comments disappears when I tell you it really takes my breath away to see your beautiful build and that I'm getting anxious to start my own with Blom's drawings after HMS Winchelsea.
Only thing is Chuck plans a POF project also after the Winchelsea project.

So there will have to be made some choices...

    Frank.

Oehhh tempting. Chucks projects are high on my 'wanted' list as well. Same as the japanese temples for woody joe's.

Life is all about choices yes.

ps I have a break from building, which is normal for me. I have had more longer periods off during the years I am building. They mostly last a couple of months to build up spirit again.

    hans.

  8. Thanks all for the nice and kind words. I assure you on MSW it has always been good, no problems here. And I think the guy is to illiterate to be able to be present and do the same here. But it just spoiled a lot of fun that comes with the building.

As said it didnt hamper my fun in building.

  9. It really has been a while since I posted. Main reason for that is that my 'interest' to post and to be active on a forum had been substantially reduced some time ago due to things that happened on another forum. There was a member continously giving off on me and my way of working. Always in a sneaky way, never directly but always below the belt. Always in other threads, never in mine. A lot of other members saw it as well and also had problems with him. But as always in this world, moderation can do little if no direct evidence or direct attacks.

So when he even started becoming personal, like commenting on personal circumstances like how ridiculous it was if certain people had or used certain tools, and what sort of people were not belonging in this hobby and doing it all wrong... clearly to be identified that I or my tools were meant, It broke with me.

So I drew back from forums at all for some time.

I am very low profile now, but still active building. I just thought to let you all know.

here some pictures of status from a few weeks ago.

  10. As covid pushes on we just keep building. I decided some time ago that it was time to get some order and structure in the way I was building. Before I just did as I went along in what ever I found fun doing. But then I decided structure was needed and I would build from bottom to top.

So as the front is nearly finished up to and including the bakdek I must reach the same level at the rear. So time to speed up things there.

here some pictures with the latest status quo.

  11. Hi Frank,

Thanks for you nice comments. I have owned the Dik book but sold it. I am building from Otte Blom's plans. http://www.otteblom.nl/

and for when those plans are not clear enough or missing information I use what is available from Dik's book and the Batvaia warf and other sources like  the Kolderstok model of the 7P.

It was/is my first boat ever, I also started out of the blue without any shipbuilding knowledge. Learn as you go.

All you basically need are the line drawings, lijnendiagram, of the boat. Each and every frame and curve can be taken out of the drawings.

Check for "lofitng a boat". :)

But the project you chose is also very interesting and will be challenging.

I look forward to following you.

    Rgds Hans
