  1. Sjors and Popeye...two multi tasking builders shrouded in mystery.
  2. Those are very nice, Tom. Thanks for sharing the mini-tutorial! I think I need to add that lathe to my wish list!
  3. Wow - nice work on the rigging! The more I see of this one, the more I like the colors as well. This is going to be one fine looking addition to your collection!
  4. It really is odd - I have a set of 1940 model plans drawn by H. W. Potter (never heard of the gent before - have any of you?) for the Bluenose which doesn't show it. The 1996 Model Shipways plans are as Bob indicated - an "unknown object" - added no doubt based on the above photo. The object to port and aft of the cabin may be a scuttle; or, more likely, a storage tub for the main sheet hauling tackle. Cut it from sheet stock and round the top edge.
  5. Wow, Ferit - that looks like it was an amazing vacation! Thank you for sharing these pictures with those of us who can only dream of such a trip!
  6. Very nice work on the various fiddly pieces of string! Now about those new clothes....
  7. Hope your Birthday was a relaxing day fishing - ENJOY!
  8. Glad you got that delivery, Sjors! You are really doing a great job with the rigging.
  9. Good afternoon, Sjors! Saw all the update messages so figured i would check in - alas, no new pictures, but lots of crows feet and waiting for parts. Oh, well. At least there is still some popcorn available! Hmmm...45 more posts until the next promotion - think number 3,000 will put you over to page 112??? Glad you are doing better, but sorry to hear your boss expects you to now report to work! have a great day....
  10. Antony - Click on More Reply Options at the bottom of a reply screen. You will then see the Attach Files button below the box you are typing in. Click Attach File, locate the file you want to attach then follow the prompts. You can't post it as viewable (like a picture) but the file will be there. Hope that makes sense!
  11. Appreciate any and all advice, Thanasis! I actually located the box where this had been packed and will check out the clearness of the bottle this week - makes sense that that would be the key consideration!
  12. Welcome aboard, Jesse - with any luck I will be getting off my duff over the next week or so and starting in on this teensie beastie! I hope you are referring to the kit and not me, Popeye!!!
  13. Wow, Sjors - I go away for a weekend and just look at you!!!! That re-done mainstay looks very good. Much more to scale.
  14. Nice touch, Ed. Definitely adds to the accuracy!
  15. Holy Cow, Sherry - that is amazing! There are not enough superlatives in the English language to truly describe that - AWESOME!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
  16. You do good work, Andy - those shrouds look very crisp!!
  17. Glad the recovery is progressing, Eddie. Nice work on the paint job and rudder. Looks sharp!
  18. Moving along briskly, Augie. The decking looks really nice, and I like the idea of supports for the antlers. Now, I have heard of a razee, where the number of decks is reduced, but not sure I have seen many (any?) where additional decks were added! Make her into a 54 gun, eh?
  19. Sjors - You may want to look into the following book on the Aggy: Nelson's Favourite:HMS Agamemnon at War, 1781-1809 (1996) ISBN-13: 978-1557506207 Written by Anthony Deane (a descendant of Sir Anthony Deane, the noted naval architect)
  20. Richard - your deck planking looks really nice! I will second what Steve said - the Underhill book on rigging the clipper ship is very good. There are several Clipper Ship books that may be of some use - some better than others - particularly related to the deck furniture and hulls. Some of these include: Lubbock, Basil (1919). The China Clippers Kipping, Robert (1853) Rudimentary treatise on masting, mast-making, and rigging of ships (available on-line at http://archive.org/details/rudimentarytrea00kippgoog) MacGregor, David (1983) Tea Clippers: Their History and Development, 1833-1875 There are many more - like Steve, i enjoy reading about the history. At last count, my nautical and model building collection (started a tad over a year ago) is in excess of 200 printed books and well over 300 downloaded pdf documents.
  21. Sjors - that's a lot of bits and pieces! Will grab a seat here in the front before it gets crowded.
  22. John - thanks for asking! I was fearing that I was the only one who didn't know. I Googled it and came up with a derogatory slang word for Italians, but knew they wouldn't be wiping some form of Italian sealant on the deck!
