  1. Thank you very much Lawrence, Daniel, Ben, John and Gil. Gil - a special thanks is due to you. Your log in itself has been an inspiration for many other Victory builders here and there were many times I found myself thinking, "now how did Gil handle that?". Thank you also for the many exchanges of personal correspondence as we compared notes on various issues. I look forward to seeing the final stages of completion of your own masterpiece.
  2. 'Bout bloody time too Mate! And a lovely set of photos to celebrate your return too.
  3. Those draught marks are a lovely touch Remco, and so exquisitely precise!
  4. Great to see you back in the shipyard Alan. And yep, like Wacko says, re-dos are just par for the course. The important thing is that YOU are satisfied with the results.
  5. Mark, It's clear that the Macro Gods are smiling on you today. Some very fiddly work, very neatly done.
  6. Thank you Marc for your very kind words.
  7. Having watched the demo videos (of the Microjig Grr-Ripper), my opinion is that this will get a lot of use in my workshop. True, for widths smaller than 1/8" a different method will be needed, but there's still an awful lot of cutting to do at wider widths. The fact that it can be used equally on the Byrnes saw or a full sized table saw (not to mention band saw, router table, etc) is a huge bonus. I think this will be money well-invested, and being a safety item, there was no problem in gaining funds approval from the Admiral
  8. Thanks for showing us this Mike. I've just ordered one!
  9. Looking good Derek - nice to see you back at it. Not far to go now!
  10. Congratulations on reaching a significant milestone there Nick - looking very nice indeed.
  11. Okay Augie, your week is up, and then some! Let's see some progress!!!
  12. Nicely done Daryl. I hope you get the urge to fit a boiler at some stage - even if it is a static display only.
  13. Thank you so much B.E. for your kind words and also for your advice and assistance along the way.
  14. Thank you so much Bob - that is very kind of you. I'm looking forward to starting the cross section in a couple of weeks time. In the meantime, I've been having a "boatload" of fun with my Stephenson's Rocket, just for something completely different.
  15. Thank you so much Lawrence, Sherry and Rick. Lawrence - not sure that 19 years counts as "speedy completion", but thank you for kind words anyway. Nice to see you back and posting again Sherry - thought you'd gone AWOL for a while there. I'll look forward to some updates on your lovely San Felipe. And Rick - welcome home my friend. It's been far too long. I look forward to seeing the resumption of play in your shipyard.
  16. Great save Jesse - and welcome to a very large club! The fore Topgallant mast on my Victory has TWO breaks in it. I would certainly recommend using epoxy if you have the misfortune to do something similar in the future. The epoxy will be stronger than the original wood! This is how I fixed the second break on mine.
  17. Great tutorial Chris - thanks for sharing. For those as "chromatically challenged" as me, it's always helpful to read tutorials like this.
  18. Kevin, From memory, I needed to add about 50% to the purchase price to allow for shipping to Australia, and that was when the Aussie $ was trading at better than parity against the green back. Even with that extra cost, I don't regret one cent. All of the Byrnes machines are exquisite pieces of machinery that are a joy to use and should last a lifetime. To be honest, I cant even remember the total cost, but I sure as heck remember what a great machine it is!
  19. Kevin, You can get the BV cross section plans in 1:48. If you want them in 1:24, just have them enlarged. I'm with Mobbsie on this point - all you need is a little belief.
