  1. she looks great David.........you've done such a superb job with the rigging
  2. sometimes........yas jest has ta git tough! it's inventive and it works.........looks nice!
  3. superb work Daniel........lots of delicate work! those gun port lids look especially nice. are you going to flip the grates over, so the printed pattern will show?
  4. is there anyway the bulwark can be cut out and the cathead slid into place?
  5. we've had the SUV for a month and a half.........put about 400 miles on it. I've worked in the automotive field for over 15 years and car in general most of my life........I've always said that warrenties weren't worth a p-hole in a snowbank........proof in the pudding!
  6. this has been a hot and humid fourth of July........didn't get to do as much as I wanted to do....build wise. I did manage to make some 3.5 mm hearts though.....not quite that sure that is what you would call them, but that's the roll they will play in the bow rigging. just some odds and ends......that's the extent of my playtime. been too busy flirting with bad luck.........between having to do $400 worth of repairs on our SUV that the warrenty won't cover, and trashing the self propell in my lawnmower on a curbing........I don't know what's worse......or what the third bit of bad luck will be {they always com in threes}. more on this one soon
  7. sorry to hear of the dilemma..........sounds like you got two good ways to correct the problem. both are a good solution
  8. I vote to keep it as well..........you've put too much into the hull. a clear coat would definitely make her shine!
  9. nice shots of the upper section......now she's really taking shape. the dowels are going to make it quite strong. .......some really nice progress!
  10. I can only go as far as the leash will reach.........the ball is quite heavy...LOL!! I still have my fun though
  11. very nice work Clare. the way you arrived at the finished hull is unique. love the deck planking and the features you've put into it......really superb stuff!
  12. hope you had a good day my friend! June ended wet...........now July is starting out hot. took me two days to get the lawn under control. just in time for me to go back to work.......oh well............ hope to see more on the planking
  13. I have never had to add extra weight in my builds. if it's to be bolted to the stand, I see it even less. it's more of a preference thing....it's up to you I know how you feel..........we had a very wet end to june.....as a rule, I hate to cut the grass when it's wet. this means having to scrape under the deck after I'm done........the less I do under there, the better. so needless to say, I had a jungle outside. now we are having a hot spell, so it took me two days to get the lawn back into shape. I have a used lawn mower that was here when the previous tennants moved out. the self propell wasn't working, but I fixed it and got it working great! yesterday, I started to mow, and I hit the curbing around the front yard, and it took out all of the under carriage.......the self propell is wiped out! I had to remove it all.........it was wrapped around the blade. the transmission is still part of the rear wheels........puts resistance in pushing it, so now it is a chore again. I need to drop the transmission and replace the existing shaft with simple rear axle brackets, or an axle rod that goes through both ends. darn thing's a work in progress. wish I could find an old mower with a blown engine....it would make life easy. the engine on this one is very good.........prime and one pull is all it takes! you work in some very beautiful places.........what do you do for work?
  14. is all that land yours? I'd have a garden......a big one! I was raised on a farm........enjoyed fishing and being barefoot. milked the cow by hand..........I look back on it now and BOY!!!! that was the life!
  15. ahhhh.....memories....they bring you back, don't it I have three ships that are still around since I picked the hobby back up.....before I got into wood kits. I always say that they are the best barometer of your experience level.....I can see my paint has improved sometimes I miss plastic.......I have the United States, that I need wood for, and I have the Lindberg Jolly Rodgers.......I look forward to fooling around with these some day soon.........got to clear the smoke I created first though one of my biggest problems with the decal maker is the transparency issue. I think I need to find a printer that will go over 600 DPI. I have an HP deskjet F2480 w/ scanner. I have the Testor's 'decal it' decal maker standard edition {I sent out for it}. the basic one will not allow you to import images into it. the standard edition will allow you to do that. I've been scanning all kinds of stuff....stencils and the like, import them in, and size them down. it will even bend the text and you can change the font to anything you want......get some really fancy placards and stuff that a way
  16. that would have been great fore my Cutty Sark build........that's what got me to buy the decal maker program. the only problem I faced was that ink jet printers don't do white. if I could have found something like an ALPS printer.....all would have been right with the world. they are around, but the price is through the roof! the decal sheet for the kit was no good, so I ordered a new sheet from Revell........I got that and two of the three sail sheets. when I went to use these decals, I was dismayed to find that even those decals had micro cracked. I tried to find a place to have them made, but I got the brush-off instead. that's when I found the Testor's 'basic' decal maker kit. in the kit was a can of decal bonder.......if I knew of this stuff ahead of time, I could have saved the rest of the decals......especially the waterline markers. to get those markers, I printed off about six copies of the decal sheet {clear film}, and traced over them with a white paint marker. took about that many tries to get a passable set of markers.
  17. I never knew the correct name for them........I just call them rub rails
  18. I used to hunt in my younger days.......got out of school and moved to Florida for five years. when I got back, I tried to pick it back up...... but, something about sitting in cold wet leaves in the early November morns, didn't enthuse me anymore. I took the hunter's safety course over again.......didn't have to, but I did anyway. the big test at the end of the course was a skeet shoot......I did very well, got three out of five. my brother And I have been around guns all our lives......I had my 12 gauge w/varible choke, and he had his 16 gauge. I nicknamed mine 'pointer', because with 00 buck and a half open ckoke, that's all I had to do ?:>) tried to git my brother David into shoot'in.........had to enroll 'em in one of those triggernomitry classes......'cuz he wuz the worse shot in the famly.....Hee.....Hee
