  1. Well done and well detailed. The helicopters look good from here. In person, they probably look better as the case keeps one's nose from getting too close.
  2. Beautiful machining, Rik. On the flywheel groves... could it be spun up on the lathe and a file used to gently remove them? Or maybe emory cloth? I machined some cannons years ago and had to that for the same reason... not sure what caused those groves. Later found out, I could avoided them by using the power feed on the cutting tool.
  3. Looking good on the planking. As for acetone and fingernail polish remover... usually, one and the same item with the "remover' being more expensive.
  4. Looking great, Ron. As for the ants... to me "extreme prejudice" involves fire. Not a good thing in the shipyard.
  5. I totally agree with you Richard. Engineering is an art form. As for the link.. enjoy it. It's a deep rabbit hole though.
  6. I don't know if this will inspire you or totally depress you... https://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/memuseum1.htm
  7. Welcome to MSW, John. I suggest you read this topic first: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/13703-for-beginners-a-cautionary-tale/ You'll find a lot of good insight for a beginner. Also read the other pinned posts pinned at the top of this forum. As questions as needed as there's no such thing as a stupid question. When you're ready, open a build log as it's a great way to get answers to problems with the model and also to meet other builders.
  8. Richard posted just recently. Hopefully he'll be back. You might try sending him a PM.
  9. Great to see you back, Mario. I hope things do calm down and stay calmed down for you.
  10. Not enough "wows" in the world to describe this build. You've gone above and beyond.
  11. I think the wooden ones look great. Have a great time with the family as they should have priority.
  12. Lovely work. Looks great. How did you solve your flag question? I've seen some use double sided printing and other use a "double print" connected at the rope area and folded and glued.
  13. I'm sorry to hear of the health issues, Ron. I hope her surgery goes well. We are a patient lot so no rush.
  14. Tamaya also makes a "fine" surface primer. It's for plastic and metal and the pigment is finer than their others. It comes is white, gray, and black. I'm using in brass and my tests show it looks good for the items I'll need to paint.
  15. I had to bookmark that site. Google Chrome will do a translate in place and it always asks first.
  16. That's true Kurt. I forgot about the wobble. I haven't used them much but now I remember I had to clean them up with a file. A pain to do. So, forget that idea.
  17. Thanks for the comments and likes. I'm sorting out this part of the planking with a planking fan and some thinking was the best way to mass produce tapered planks. Dave, Given the number of bulkheads in the bow, no need to add filler blocks, just careful fairing. This kit is very good, IMHO. Minimal tools and most of the hard work as compared to other kits and scratch has been done for the builder.
  18. Sorry to hear of your Mum, Glenn. Nice work on the planking.
  19. I'm not sure about dado blades as such. The only thing I've seen are washers that are "cocked" in the both sides aren't parallel. One side is milled at an angle. These were/are for the MicroMark saw but I don't know if Jim has anything similar for his saw.
  20. It's going to get crowded fast, OC. Looking great though. Will there be room for the French?
  21. The skid beam also was left extended at the field according to an uncle I had who was pilot. If the winds came up, depending on the direction, it would drop the tail. Also if engines were removed for maintenance, or other work was being done forward or aft that would affect the balance, they would drop the skid to keep it level. My uncle was a character to say the least. He told the story how during in training, they took their B-24's out and with him flying lead, played "follow me"... loops, rolls, etc. The factory reps had a fit. His commander blew them off saying if they couldn't handle a little bit stunt flying, they couldn't handle combat. It did pay off, he told us about get hitting hard with flak that flipped his plane over. They flew back and realized they couldn't flip it back do to control surface damage. So they all bailed out over the channel a few miles from the coast.
