  1. Everything looks prim and proper from here, Hank. I hope it doesn't upset you the first time you get sawdust on the floor. It will be like getting the first ding in a new car.
  2. Allan, I ran into that also. Only did it one time but I found out where to get them. Chalk this up to the "trials and tribulations of building model ships".
  3. Photography is an art and has come a long way since I've done any. I had the gray cards and color cards but developing the film and prints was the tricky part back then. I'm learning a lot following along, Gaetan. You're an excellent teacher.
  4. Such fantastic work in such a tiny scale. Your leve of detail is amazing.
  5. I've found that the foam nail sanding blocks sold by beauty supply shops work well in many applications. For a "hard" back, I just cut a piece of wood and glue the paper on. One can also use dowels of assorted sizes where a inside rounded shape is needed. Scrap wood, basswood all work well for these.
  6. Welcome to MSW, Ben.
  7. Thanks Roger for the info. So it must have been Anzio Annie then that I saw. They had so much stuff there it just incredible.
  8. Didn't they have a WWI Paris Gun at Aberdeen? Or am I thinking of a different gun? I was there mid-70's on trip to validate a manual I wrote for the M-901 and recall seeing some super long gun. Might have the so-called "Atomic Cannon".
  9. That's a grey area, Ken... "heavy cavalry". Some were called "heavy" due to the size of the horses. Others, it depended on the amount of armor and even sword size. It was easier to sort out back during the middle ages....
  10. You'll get it sorted, Jerry. You've come this far so what's a few more steps? I think Yancovitch might on to something. Is it that the "large" parts don't cool fast enough?
  11. Welcome to MSW, Colfitz. Steven gave the best advice and I can't add to it.
  12. Welcome to MSW, Sweephall. Best advise I can give is to open log. Also check the kit logs for the one you're building because a) they're a good guide and b) they usually point out dead-ends, errors, etc. Also, check out the other sub-forums here at MSW if you have questions. Often a search using the search feature will find you and answer.
  13. Your last paragraph is the key. I think we're all swamped right now. I've had to limit my time also and I know I'm missing reading some great logs.
  14. OC, I used to do AD&D type miniatures like orcs, dwarves in my deep dark past. One way I found to do them and not waste paint by cleaning the brush multiple times was to do like all the flesh on each one first, then hair, beards, and details. It seemed to be faster that way. By the time I had all the faces painted, the first ones were dry and I could go onto the next color.... wife, life, etc. permitting of course. Ended with a "little guys and creatures" assembly line. Fond memories from back then like: Dungeon Master: "You're in a round room. The treasure is in the corner."... Players: "We got the treasure and left the room." Laughter and beer all around.
  15. Check your settings on the logs... there's a button for each "era" labeled "Sort by". Make sure "recently updated" is selected. Once done it should stay that way and all the logs with new posts are at the top.
  16. Why not just open additional windows for each "date" you wish to look at? When done with say "scratch".. refresh the home page.
  17. Saliva... i.e.: spit. The enzymes in it will actually help clean off the dust and debris faster without harming the finish or the wood.
  18. I was thinking thin (10mm sounds good) with each end glued to a bulkhead. You can stack them up as high as you want to fill the open area.
  19. Welcome to MSW, This sounds like an interesting project. I would suggest that you open a topic here on the ship: https://modelshipworld.com/forum/13-discussions-for-ships-plans-and-project-research-general-research-on-specific-vessels-and-ship-types/.
  20. True on the research. I find that is sometimes more fulfilling than the model.
  21. I changed your topic title scale for you. If you need to change anything on the title, just go to the very first post and hit "edit". As for the planking problem, if I understand this, you want to basically fill the areas between the bulkheads above the area you have filled, right? I've used basswood (lime) and also balsa for filling. I have found though that the lime works better.
  22. When you add your pictures, please update the title with maker of the kit.
