Wonderful work, Popeye. The drums help to make things pop and look like the real ship.

Thank you for the "likes" and comments. I guess time for some answers... Sam, One light coat to give some protection. I know that I'll have to go back do some more sanding because I have do some more parts such as a window, the quarter galleries, and the breeching bolts. Thanks Popeye. The gaps are for the channels. I have the counter planked so it's the planking above the counter.. Plus the quarter galleries cover pretty much all the exposed butts. Jason, I wouldn't call it spiling. More like sanding and shaping like crazy. Oh wait... this is spiling.. so yes. Thanks Dan. As I mentioned to Popeye, the counter is planked. I think the proper term would be transom? The windows and the area above it? Maybe the do the windows but not much more until she's cut loose from the build board far in the future.

Update time. Starboard side aft outer bulwark is done.. sanded and has one coat of Wipe-On poly drying. I'll rotate the hul around and turn to on the port side aft. I'm debating over when this part is done whether to finish the hull planking or turn my attention to the stern planking. I guess I'll just wait and see what mood I'm in.

I think what makes this kit hard is the instructions and some of the workmanship on parts. You are coming up on a gotcha' and I suggest you look at the other guys logs. The cannon on the gundeck.... if you put on the catwalks first, it's very difficult to rig them. So you'll want to give some though on how the rigging and how much rigging you want to do.

Looking great, Grant. I'm assuming you're not planking the inside?

The ANCRE English version of the Belle Poule book arrived. It's the exact same book that comes with the monograph. Makes my pathetic attempt at translating it even more pathetic. Anyway... happy dance.... I ordered this a week ago and with expedited shipping, it came today in a sturdy wrapping. The one on the left is the French version I got when I ordered a year ago.. on the right is the new English version.

Generally, yes, you should do a rabbet for the garboard plank. Some kits get around this by having you plank the hull before installing the keel. I then gives the impression of a rabbet. Other manufacturers ignore the rabbet completely. Not knowing anything about your specific kit, I can't offer further advice.

Which kit? All I see is the manufacturer's name.... ????

Off by .001"... really? And that's "sloppy"??? Sorry, I think it's damned good (pardon my French). I wish I could hold that tolerance.
-
Make it behave....???? I don't think that's possible. However, yes, I probably will stick with it while my stock lasts.

Bow section.. yes. No pics yet. Working on the aft (quarterdeck) bulwarks. Mike, Frames are cherry. Planking that on is Swiss pear and ebony. No stain... hopefully I won't need it.
