Thank you for the "likes" everyone. Richard, I have the older version (not the current one) from MicroMark and rather large pile of accessories. When it dies... I'm thinking Byrnes. I've seen the shortened fence idea in several logs and finally got off my butt to do one. Happily, I can't induce it to kickback now.

It probably let them standardize a bit on carriages. Use the rear trunnion mount for a longer gun. These barrels are pretty darn heavy and not something you just lift up and move.

HMS Druid by Krug - FINISHED - 1:48 - Hahn

The problem is... you didn't talk like an artist and stare off into the distance with that look of "artistic distain" while mumbling about "no one understands my art!". :D -
Is it you look tired or Victory? The Vic looks very clean and I agree with what Augie said, in spades!!!

Congratulations, Grant. What an accomplishment and for that I salute you. Well done and I'm looking forward to your venture into the darkside.

Mark, That is absolutely fantastic. I'm also admiring Peter's efforts. Looks to be quite well done, IMO. -
The one's that Tower Hobbies has is the same size for AL... Weird, my kit had brass. What came with the kit is wood or wood like, right? If so, they should work.

Model Shipways Mayflower solid hull kit, c1956
mtaylor replied to Tidbinbilla's topic in Wood ship model kits
Ok...that's cool. I killed the build log since nothing was done. -
I remember that discussion, Daniel. The door for that entry port is going to haunt us until our dying days it seems. That's a nice touch on the boarding ropes.

Lovely work on some tiny bits there, Danny. If you hadn't told us what you faked, we wouldn't have known it.

Thanks for the comments and the likes. I did do a re-do but not on the ship. There's a discusson about the Byrne's saw in the tool section that got me thinking more and off my butt to do something I've been wanting to do. MicroMark sells a high fence and featherboard set, which I've had for some time now. The high fence actually just slides over the fence supplied with the saw and is held in place with 3 screws.. So, I modified it by cutting it just a bit more than half. A brief test shows that it works well and I couldn't force the thing to do a kickback on me. So back to doing gunports. .

The Byrnes Saw "inside and around"
mtaylor replied to nobotch's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I'm headed off topic only that I don't have a Jim Saw but the MM (old style) tablesaw. This topic got me to get off my butt and do something I've been meaning to do. The Micromark saw has a high fence with featherboard option. What I did was cut it down like this (a bit more than half) : A brief test with some scrap and I'm happy.... -
Sjors, The fix for the footropes looks great. Permission granted from me for you to carry on. I guess Anja and Mobbsie need to give their permission also?

It wasn't a sliding door like those on many ship's stern galleries, was it? I guess we'd need to access the real ship's frames (if they haven't been replaced) to find out.

Nice work on the stand. I like it. If you can get the size of the belt, Google it. There's lots of places online selling belts for just about every machine.

Geoff, I would suggest pointing him to this topic, in particular.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
