  1. Well done on the rigging. You're getting there... almost done.
  2. Nenad, The differences in color, to me anyway, is that in some photos, everything is wet. Others, everything is dry. It also appears that some items are freshly varnished, others are weathered. In the last picture, you can see at the top of the steps, it looks like part is worn and part isn't.
  3. What? There's no more new history???
  4. Misinformation by guides abounds. The best one I've ever heard was that the "birth deck" (sic) on the Vic was where the sailor's wives went to deliver their babies.
  5. Since when has any of the Continental manufacturers ever got the scale right? My observation is they put the scale the box they want with little to no bearing on what's in the kit.
  6. I guess it's a good thing that you're not doing the full build. As it is, the cross-section is going to be a monster. Looking really good on the frame.
  7. Oh, it's a solid hull. I was thinking planking strips. I'm guessing pine then. MS used to use that, and far as I know, they still do.
  8. Hi Jason, On the mast holes... I made a stand to fit my drill press and did the holes using that. They can be done freehand if you're careful. Start with a very small bit and work your way larger. I suggest hold off on planking until the holes are cut. Use squares, protractors, etc. to get the angles right before drilling. As for the ports... drill well inside the port, again with a small bit, many holes in the general shape. Connect the holes with a small saw. I use the X-acto #11 blades and they also make a saw blade that looks like a #11. Then file to shape. Do feel free to post pictures and questions before you do something irreversible if you're not sure. I know others have done this kit out of the box. I heavily bashed mine so in some areas, I'm not going to be much help.
  9. Nice work. For a minute there, I thought you were sending your iPhone through the sander.
  10. Ed. This has been ongoing for some time. There was site posted here months ago for signing a petition in favor of the preservation. It sounds like you found the right people for info. Let's hope that preservation wins, though the big money is talking and has found ears over there.
  11. Moderator's translation of the above post via Google: Thank you for your congratulations. I am still with you. I have to do everything manually. Therefore, the Assembly is very slow. Dust everywhere many pilot passed through several stages.
  12. Sweet looking capstan, Matti. I didn't do the bars on my Vasa, but you've gone that extra step and it looks great.
  13. Jason, What many of us do is pre-caulk the planks. Use a #2 pencil or an archival felt pen and blacken one side and one end of the plank. When they are placed, you'll have the caulking. About your only option is to run a knife down the plank line and use a very sharp pencil to highlight them. BTW, there's a "gotch" with this kit... be sure to read really far ahead and think ahead. If you follow the instructions and do the gangways, it will be extremely difficult to install the cannon under them.
  14. So true, David. But there's a joy in the books beyond the info. In this case, the rigging plan alone is worth the price not counting some of the detail stuff. I'm studying these plans and monograph and realize that there's a lot more to this ship than what Hahn shows. I'm thinking that I'll have make a serious parts order or three for rigging material... hooks, deadeyes, blocks, ring bolts and eyebolts.
  15. It was funny, today. No more than 30 minutes after posting my last, the Le Venus book was delivered. Very impressive monograph and service from ANCRE.
  16. Nice planking, Sjors. Didn't anyone tell Sherry to have two chairs? One in each build area. That way they don't have to be moved.
  17. Ah.. so you were holding out on us about the "s" curve? Did you cut out the strap in the "s" shape or heat and laterally bend it?
  18. Piet, You're the one with the references... from the pic, it looks great but if you say it's too small, then that's what it is. Hmm.. a 1.75mm round... I can turn some brass rod down and bore it... maybe some pistol power and a bb? I'll send it to you and you can make it a muzzle loader and fire it periodically just to irritate the neighbors?
  19. Looks great, Nenad. No one ever will look at you funny for have a two-way conversation. Just be careful about having a three-way conversation with yourself or someone will think you'll need to be under a doctor's care. When me, myself, and I have conversations and arguments, there's never a tie. If I don't like what the other two say, I ignore them. Sometimes....
  20. Looking good, Mike. Now I grasp the concept of the clamps, string, and what appears to be hooks for securing the planks while the glue dries. But the BFG and nails...?????
  21. Steve, Don't tell them your using it on a model.. just kinda' shift, look at the ceiling, and say something like: "I'd rather not say.". At least as they are slowly moving towards the door, they won't say: "That's cute." :D
  22. Augie... wow!!! Excellent work on the stern galleries and the stern itself.
  23. I hope you don't mind if I pull up a chair for this? Will you be building it as the kit or bashing it?
