  1. Indeed... what John said. I'm going to pull up chair as this should be interesting to watch.
  2. Grant, I'm guessing that you might be opening the Aussie branch of the Syren Model Company? :D Ok.. seriously, fantastic looking blocks. As for kneeling, will a low chair work?
  3. Mitsuaki, I too hope we get the chance to enjoy each others comments and techniques. Good luck with the presentation. I wish I could be there for it.
  4. Sjors, I don't think Anja needs ideas... she loves you too much. Borge, I too am waiting for this secret of the ages to be revealed. But, patient I will be.
  5. Super nice carving work on those tiny bits, Nigel. I wondered what they were going to look like after the first machining.
  6. Kriss, You picked a hum-dinger for a first ship... And I thought 1:100 was too small. Part of the "fun" is the challenge to clean everything up and make them nice. Not much different with wood.. I mean the part is in that chunk of tree somewhere, we just have to find it. At least with plastic it's there.. just not as smooth or sharp as you may want it. At 1:150, I'm not sure how much detail you can add for rigging. Although we have "ships in the bottle" guys who do remarkable work. Hang in there, I think you're doing great and your attitude will help get through this.
  7. Get well soon, Sjors. And no, we won't ask to see a picture of you being sick.. Hmm... so right now, those who need to do ratlines can have either rigging spiders, or gnomes do them. Right? Who does the best work..the spiders or the gnomes?
  8. Matti, I think you have the galleries spot on. I find it humourous that everyone else avoids "wonky" and apologizes and you're striving for it. I'm rethinking my definitions when I see something that perfect.
  9. Doris, That is one amazing room... better than a museum from what I can see. It's good that you had a great summer and trips. The Royal Caroline still looks great and I'm looking for more of your inspirational work when you get the time to work on her. I have to say that you have more courage than I do to take your models outside.
  10. Nicely done... Lanterns? Wow... Hope you had a great hiking/camping trip. Where was that photo taken? Beautiful country.
  11. Hamilton, Excellent work on the fiddly bitsl You continue to do very clean and precise work on very tiny parts. Wow!
  12. Bill, I knew I'd seen something about how to do planks.... see this post for a link: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/2915-milling-planks-need-help-moved-by-moderator/?p=80856
  13. Good looking brackets, Grant. Very well done. Sometimes we just need a break, truth be told.
  14. Shawn, We'll look forward to a bulid log (or at least a kit review). Should be an interesting build. Since it a Guillow model, I wonder if they suggest buying an .049 engine to power it? :D
  15. Henry, I think outside of repainting the gold, the only other choice you have is to let it be as is. Dullcoat does mute the colors some, particularly the shiny ones like gold, copper, brass, etc. Hmm.... try this:somewhere on scrap...paint some blue... paint some gold for detail... spray with dullcoat. The brush some gloss coat on the gold. Might work.
  16. Hamilton, Unless my math is wrong... to drop a 5" plan down to 3.75 is 3.75 / 5 = .75 or 75%.
  17. Pete, I think that's more common than any of let on... If I were you, I'd take the 1:48 plans and put them somewhere else. I ran into a similar issue on my current build. Had two sets of plans and one was distorted enough to cause me grief. I put them away and am sticking to one set.
  18. Hi Michael, When you edit your signature, up at top of the formatting menu is "My Media". Use that to pull the image you want from your computer other source.
  19. But it's really not about fishing, is it? The fishing is the excuse. Good to see you back, Augie.
