Hank, You should know by now that we are a patient lot... with one or two exceptions.... -

That is some seriously nice etching work. I guess one of these days I'll probably have to look into this process.

Mercury by DSiemens - FINISHED - BOTTLE

Daniel, Are saying there's smaller line than that? If not, you might want to make the shrouds a bit larger in diameter. Rigging looks great. -
Have a good vacation, wefalck. I'm looking forward to seeing this all come together, but I'll be patient.

Thanks guys... ok... the short-timer's calendar is running. Day's like the last two make me realize that I'm getting too old for this work stuff. We have heavy forest fires going on down here in Southern Oregon. About 40,000 acres burned since the 26th of July and valley that Medford is in is filling with smoke. Which causes problems on the air conditioning at work. Which, even though I'm in IT, I have to monitor the switch rooms and temperatures, etc. Long story short, one of the units had some..er... issues. Filled one switch room and my "lab" with heavy smoke. Which has created other problems. Hopefully, everything has been fixed and I can go back to being a run of the mill cubicle convict tomorrow. Hmm... I'm babbling aren't I, when I could be trimming gunports.

Sweet work. What you're doing is something that every kid (boy or girl) should have... practical, hands on knowledge. They may go into some theoretical such as physics but they'll have the bit of confidence that comes this type of education... <ok... kicks soapbox back in corner> <grabs popcorn> I'll be good now and just watch and admire.

David, If you'd be so kind, could post that link to the oar lengths to the "Important Links" area. I think it's important enough that it should be preserved separately.

Matti, As I recall, the wood for the towers is a pretty hard wood. Do what's been suggested by starting with a small hole and making it bigger Go slow and check the size regularly as it's easy to make it too big.

Nice try Ferit. What Andy said. Besides, Augie's next ship is the Confederacy. A bigger, more complex project. It ought to be worth a lot more than 100 pages. Augie, I hope no-one hits me....

19th century U S Ship-of-the-Line Rigging Plans
mtaylor replied to Frank Cook's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
Frank, You can post them in this tread if you like. -
Amazing, Zen and Nietzsche and Steven Wright have finally met on Augie's esteemed build....and during a countdown, yet. It does boggle the mind. I think, therefore I'll go have a beer.

Ferit, On your ratline problem, mix some water and white glue in a 50-50 proportion. Lightly paint the ratlines and shape while it drys. Do this on a test ratline first. It should help.

Anthony, I don't want to hold this up.. go ahead and post another one. I got caught is s storm at work today and I'm still buried.

Thanks Popeye and Mario. Mario, I finally had it with all that... I'm counting down the days. If all goes according to plan (and we all know about the best laid plans of mice and men, right?), I'm sitting at 153 days and a wake-up. Anyway, back to the sweatshop and hopefully, tonite I can get a few more gunports finished.

Danny, Sorry.. was digging this morning for one to put up if no one else got it.
-
Wish I had one to put up.. found her (or it maybe ). And yes, it should go to the Ugliest Ship thread, Danny.

Wonderful work Darryl. Those chairs are incredible. I agree that we shipbuilders could learn a lot from the railroad folks.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
