  1. Try a quick search on this sub-forum using the words 'solid' and 'hull' (without the quotes). I got 15 hits and many have discussions about this. Also check out the kit build log area and try the same search. There's several builds going on using solid hulls. Not sure what kind of advice you seek and since I've not built a solid hull I'm less then no help on them.
  2. Just amazing in the detail and beautiful to behold. I think Druxey's assessment is correct. We may need to march on the NYYC if they turn it down. I'm looking forward to your QAR.
  3. Blackcreek, Post your offer in the Traders and Dealers section. Follow the guidelines and the sale should go well.
  4. Nicely done, John. Been a pleasure to watch this one and I can't wait to see final bits all come together. Hmm... would it help if we sent someone to stand outside the museum and tell visitors "it's closed"???? Just trying to help.
  5. Murphy is not our friend... If someone ever invented Murphy Repellent, they'd be a billionaire over night!!! Hang in there Adam. He'll wander off and soon you'll more build time on your hands than you'll know what to do with.
  6. Part of the furniture? Hate to say it but that beast IS furniture. And above and beyond just plain cool. Beautiful job sir, my hat is off to you.
  7. Confed looking great Augie. You got me smiling at your progress. Oh... and it looks like the moose is back.
  8. Wow! What a great vacation. Thanks for sharing the photos with us Ferit. Ignore Sjors telling you to get back in the workshop and relax with the memories of that trip. Ok... times up... back to work. :D
  9. Sjors, If you're happy with it, I think we'll be happy with it. Nice work, sir. Well done!
  10. Nice work on the ports and the drilling jig. As I recall from seeing other logs, aligning those port strips aren't the easiest but it looks like you did great.
  11. Tough call, Bob. I know that whichever way you go, you'll succeed, even though there may be some "sailor language" flying about the workshop. If it were me, I'd pause for a few days and see what ME says. Then when my head clears, I'd press on. I know you love the challenge also.
  12. I'm just curious... how long did it take you to get this point? It's a fascinating project as we don't often see clippers other than the Cutty Sark in the model world.
  13. Here's 3 good links on gluing. Where PVA won't work, you might have to go with epoxy. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/943-gluing-techniques-and-associated-information/ http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/1894-glue-recommendations/?hl=glue http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/2168-ca-vs-wood-glue/ There's been other posts, some in build logs, by people who have the same issue.
  14. Nenad, Hopefully, you can enjoy the fortress and maybe find some inspiration. Are there any pictures on the Cutty's website that you could use to get an idea of the size and number? Or maybe email them and ask? One of the builders around here on MSW: KimatHm is very knowledgeable on the CS. Try PMing him..
  15. I'm wondering if there wasn't some "common practice" used...such as a staple in theexposed end of the tiller, much like what holds the hammer head on the handle. Or maybe a treenail through the rudder head? I could also see "nothing" as Druxey mentions. Seems that if the rudder became unshipped or damage occured to the tiller, you'd want a fast way to repair or a way to at least minimize damage. Not pinning or locking would allow that.
  16. Just spread it over the area with a flat object like a small sheet of the cardboard from the back of a notepad. Allow to dry and sand away. Use sanding blocks and sanding sticks to get a smoother surface without all the slow spots.
  17. Dragzz, A quick search of the Model Kit Build Logs shows 7 builds currently underway. If you're looking for info, that would be one of the places to start.
  18. Forgive me for rabble-rousing.... only 90 more Sjors. I'll be quiet and go start building an Admiral's table.
  19. Doh... I guess I read too much into this... apologies.
  20. Roman, You've added fuel to the speculative fires.... I think what you say is true for 1755. As some point, Licorne went through a major repair/rebuild. The plans for her capture in 1778 show as I've described. Just another one of things that make you say: "What the....????"
  21. Oh... !!!! I see. A spacer might work with gunports cut into it, much like the many of the kits come with. I fear you may need more frames otherwise when fairing, they'll go every which way. I'll have to think about this....
  22. Very crisp and clean and I love the way the wood colors blend and accentuate. Beautiful.
