  1. I think that was "not me" who mentioned nuts somewhere else... I'm fond of popcorn and beer. Oh.. and more importantly.. coffee!!!
  2. John, Be cautionous with this crew. Old saying: he who stirs the pot gets splattered. Or is that "their plane gets splattered..?" No matter, I'm going back to making little pieces of wood from bigger pieces of wood.
  3. Nicely repainted, Sjors. I'm having to think a lot about this... peanuts, padded rooms, doctors, buses and then there's ships that go both ways. I know it's Monday but....
  4. Looks fantastic, Grant. I think Andy is right.. make it a separate model.. Man, that is good work.
  5. Nice work, Michael. That serving machine isn't very big is it? Hmm.... interesting idea.
  6. John, That's a sweet plane. Now don't go tempting Augie because he's got rigging to do.
  7. Bill, If you'll go here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-rigging-and-sails.php there's an article on making sails. He talks about materials to use and also how to furl them. Even though it's basically for a square-rigs, the same principle applies to yours.
  8. Piet, Have a great trip and a safe one. I can't tell which you're more excited about, the graduation or seeing the USS Cod.
  9. Let's not call it laziness... I'm doing 1:64 and I'll not be treenailing. The planks are only 1/8" (about 4mm) wide and that's a tad small for these eyes. Then on top of it, they should be almost invisible anyway as a plug of the same wood used for decking was used to put in the hole.. Not worth the aggrevation, in my opinion.
  10. Harvey, I was stripping off 1/8" planks off 1/16" in walnut stock and I ran into this a couple times today with the 168 tooth blade. It seems the feed speed is what does it. Too fast and the motor "bucked" and tried to kick the wood back. I suspect it's sawdust build up. New blade and freshly waxed.... So, I grabbed piece of boxwood and piece of cherry. Too fast on the feed speed and it bucks. I'm not feeding painfully slow, but the feed speed needs to be less than the 80-tooth blade.
  11. You're doing a great job on a seldom built model, Alex. I think it's the first one of these for MSW. Beautiful planking. I like the various shades of the planks. The cargo hold is a neat idea and your pump came out very crisp and clean.
  12. John, You're making fast and excellent progress with this. Keep it up and you'll be finished before you can even load into the RV.
  13. Hi Zyxuz, What great and clever way of lighting. It looks great.
  14. NIce deck, Kevin. Did you caulk and treenail it? Good practice for the model, you know. <ducks><runs>
  15. Congrats on job well done, Hamilton. The planking looks super nice. On treenailing... there's been a lot of discussion on this over the years. Anything smaller than 1:64 seems to be "no". 1:64 is "maybe"... bigger, "yes". But the issue is also one of "are they actually seen on the real thing?". I think its' modeler's choice.
  16. Guy, The scrap box has it's uses... Sometimes you just need a scrap chunk of wood to make something or for use as a support or prop. For the most part, mine is destined to either be kindling for the fireplace (chunks with glue) or used in the BBQ for smoking dinner (cherry and pear -- without any glue).
  17. Robert, I'm just playing catch-up.. the pumps turned out great. Those are fiddly things aren't they?
