I must say this is an interesting turn of events. But it should be interesting to watch. Good for you being brave enough and thoughtful enough to scrap parts of your build and go for the simplest solution.

All these great builds going on and you have a great method to keep the parts sorted... I thought it was part elves did that for you. That is a great idea.

Zyxuz, I just caught up with your log. There's some very nice work going on here. The wales and lighting are making this ship special. Very impressive build.

I think you could pull that one off. As I recall they were made of tubing? Maybe just use some styrene. If you can't find plans, use pictures. you can probably scale your rack from a known object in the picture.

Tim, Make some is the easiest answer. Use dowel of the appropriate size and work from there. Or... check with your local hobby store for model railroad barrels. You might need to take a small ruler with you as I'm sure that it'll take some poking and measuring around to find something the right size.

Ray, The planking is very well done from what I can see. Pity they can't put better wood in the kit. I love those two last pictures. There's a real difference in ship sizes.

Thanks everyone. Augie, I don't know about a lot of water.. but since the French didn't use the chain pump, these were needed. Sjors, That's Pierre, the shipyard manager.

Thanks for looking in John and Lawrence. Seven pump housings and 10 spears later... I'm ready to fix them into place. The photo is just for position only. I went with cherry on the spears as think that once they age some and darken up, they'll provide a nice contrast. I'm still debating on putting the operating ropes on the two aft ones. Now to start figuring out the capstan...

Well.. they are what you make them to be. :P But after building this ship, you're ready as this one is a lot of scratching. I did 2 builds that convinced me that scratch was doable. But then, I'm still learning.

I think many of us went through that "re-training" in school. Mine didn't take so I'm a lefty with ambidextrous tendencies and the handwriting of the doctor's prescription . Last I heard they don't try to change a kid's dominant hand. Less confusing to the kid. I pitch and write left, bat and golf right and can work most power tools with either.

Could be millimeters. Take a piece that's on the drawing of a known size and measure using the metric ruler. The other alternative is check in the kit logs and see if there's someone building her.

Sjors, I agree... take a break. Go work on the other ship.. drive a bus... just do something else. You and Mirage will be better off doing that. When you come back to Mirage, you'll fix what needs to be fixed and feel better for it.
