  1. Guy, The scrap box has it's uses... Sometimes you just need a scrap chunk of wood to make something or for use as a support or prop. For the most part, mine is destined to either be kindling for the fireplace (chunks with glue) or used in the BBQ for smoking dinner (cherry and pear -- without any glue).
  2. Robert, I'm just playing catch-up.. the pumps turned out great. Those are fiddly things aren't they?
  3. Jim, You're off to a great start. In honor Sjors,, I'll bring refreshments... first And to wash it down..
  4. Grant, Nice work on the framing. I've not attempted anything that small yet, but it's coming... oh boy... is it ever coming.
  5. Mario, I was going to ask what John asked.. if not steaming are you at least soaking them? And a great reminder about safety glasses.
  6. Thanks Frank. I posted elsewhere about the videos on this particular ship.. Or you just go to Youtube and search by the name. Interesting stuff. Thanks Walter. I'm using PVA.. Elmer's Wood Glue, specifically. If you need to dissolve CA, use acetone but do follow all precautions. That is some nasty stuff.
  7. Wayne, When this game first started in MSW 1.0, there was no Google Image Search. Clues were provided periodically Sometimes there were several days or even weeks before the ship was identified. It wasn't nearly as fast paced as it is now. And for what Danny does.... good for him. Somethings should be a challenge, right?
  8. Sweet work, Ben. I'm looking forward to seeing more. As for the chocks... good question as I've not done them on any build. Do you have any of the TFFM books? I think David A. explains how to do chocks in Volume 1.
  9. Thanks B.E. and Kevin. Kevin, You're right.. but then, I think it goes with being modelshipbuilder.
  10. Crackers, As has been said before... Google Image Search is your friend.
  11. I'll have to re-read the book, but I remember reading in the "Billy Ruffian" that the crew named the guns. It's not hard to believe as military men have named their equipment for seemingly forever.
  12. Harvey, What Huss said..... also I find that putting Pledge (furniture polish) on the blades helps also. Along on the blades and tables of the scroll saw and the table saw. The polish seems to keep the blade cleaner and clears the chips faster. Before I started doing this, the blades would get gummed up really fast.
  13. Rich, The "re-center" idea is a good one. You've got a good attitude in this, I guess that's why your build is fantastic. Job hunting and modelshipbuilding are much alike. The world has changed greatly in the last decade. What I'm hearing is HR's don't call back with a "no". If they did, you'd ask questions and their answers could get them in hot water with the legal department. Too many lawyers I guess. Mark
  14. With all this brass, I feel like I've walked into the Officer's Club. Oh wait... Sjors had a bigger table made... and there's a bar...
  15. You're definitely on the homestretch, Adriaan. I'm looking forward to picture with all the decks in place and lights on.
  16. Beautiful work, Wefalck. I hope your traveling abates and you can spend some time on this project. It's become more than a ship with the diorama bringing things to life.
  17. Popeye, Two tall ships at once? Very nice planking. What did you use for the caulking?
  18. Mobbsie, I have no clue but what Grant said makes sense. Makes me wish we had a coppering guide in the articles section that is like the planking guides. Edit: Wait a minute.. I discovered we do have one: http://modelshipworldforum.com/resources/Framing_and_Planking/CopperSheathing.pdf Not sure if it will help though. You might to look at some of the Vanguards and Aggy's and see how they did it. The Vics might help also.
  19. Dave, Excellent progress. One thing I see.... the Charley Noble is facing the wrong direction. The usually open to towards the bow, otherwise the smoke goes back down to the stove.
  20. Uh-oh, To paraphrase with apologies to Rod Serling: "You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the DarkSide!" You've gone beyond kit on this Brian. Very impressive and well done.
