F-86F-30 Sabre by Egilman - Kinetic - 1/32nd scale
mtaylor replied to Egilman's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
That's good news on the printer doing what it needs to do. Test prints look great. Once upon a time, manuals with parts breakdowns, etc. were all line drawings and distorted dimensionally so if a manual fell into unfriendly hands, they would have a tough time duplicating parts. I'm not sure if this bird falls into that category though. -
Thanks for posting that Druxey. I started reading and got immersed in it. Time to kick back with beverage and maybe popcorn for some serious reading time.

Martini Porsche 935 by kpnuts - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/12

Impressive. That small wrench in the first photo.. part of the kit? -
That's a most reasonable list of criteria, IMO, Roger. Sadly, most older kits still fail to meet many of those requirements. But, there is hope as the newer ones seem to be rising to the challenge.

They very much are of use, I agree. I'm using his method of cleaning up the cannon wheels. Some other things, at this point, I probably don't dare try but maybe in the future.

Egilman, I'm just curious. Have you done any "test" prints yet on the 3D printer? -
Hans, you probably need to edit your post and upload the images here instead of linking them. None of the images came through.

This is definitely the gold standard for this model.

Many, if not most of the "old" manufacturers don't give enough attention to instructions. The newer ones do have much better instructions and also plans. Many are starting to get the hint about their products quality and starting to change and update their products. Sadly, there's too many that still don't seem to care plus, many of the older kits will remain on the market for a long time probably on E-bay.

PM James, Bruce. He'll need some info like your IP addy. If this is typical issue, it's the firewall blocking. -
I think you'd have to make that "persons". Raise the question and let them fight it out and when done, get back to you. Seems most products these days are done by committee.

HMS Granado 1742 Kit - CAF Model - 1:48 Scale
mtaylor replied to cafmodel's topic in Wood ship model kits
I hope you stay safe, Tom. The news is saying the situation is chaotic at this point which is very worrying. -
Welcome back Peregrinator. Been a few changes since you were last here but nothing too radical I hope. Do give some thought to the log. You'll make new friends and also get advice when needed.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
