Fantastic detail and superb metal work.  How do you form those gudgeons to have such clean and sharp angles?  Do you file them from a solid piece?

cheers

Look a bit closer and it's even more impressive Pat. The starboard gudgeons (on the planked side) are much thinner than on the unplanked port side. An elegant solution to a half planked hull!

Greetings Amalio;

I have just discovered your log:  absolutely beautiful work!  The neatness of your joints and finish is exemplary,  something to aspire to at any stage of the craft of model shipbuilding.

The differences between Spanish practice and English techniques are very interesting,  and looking for them is both absorbing and educational.

Thank you for posting so many pictures of your work.

All the best,

Mark P

Previously built models (long ago, aged 18-25ish) POB construction. 32 gun frigate, scratch-built sailing model, Underhill plans.

2 masted topsail schooner, Underhill plans.

Started at around that time, but unfinished: 74 gun ship 'Bellona' NMM plans. POB

On the drawing board: POF model of Royal Caroline 1749, part-planked with interior details. My own plans, based on Admiralty draughts and archival research.

Always on the go: Research into Royal Navy sailing warship design, construction and use, from Tudor times to 1790.

Hello Amalio!

I am just discovering your build log.  As all others have commented before me, your work is, at once, astounding, enlightenning, and completely spell-binding.  You are a person of numerous talents with an un-failing eye for clean and fair lines.  I'll be watching this one with great interest.  So nice to see a Spanish ship, for a change!

We are all works in progress, all of the time.

Hello Amalio,

These interior shots are incredible.  Everything is so crisp and the joinery is superb.

I am not very familiar with Spanish ships of this period and am curious about the shape of the rudder; it is so different from the practice of other European nations.  Was there a handling advantage with this type of rudder?

We are all works in progress, all of the time.
