I really enjoyed making all the inboard deck items. The grating for the middle hatch needs to be fitted later so the anchor ropes can be added.

One of the best part of the build! Thanks the grating was just placed for the picture. For once I followed the directions. ;)

The mid deck bulkhead which was made earlier has now been placed. The spiral staircase glued in, the tiller housing and tiller handle are done as well as placing the ships wheel and rigged the blocks to the tiller. I used a light brown rigging thread I had from Syren. Also the quarter deck companion rails, binnacle, mast coat and bitts have been glued in place too.

The eyebolts you have on the forward end of the quarterdeck should be PE cleats

And you said your eyes were old! Great catch Bob. Thanks

Great job! The more I am, the more I admire the treatment of the PE elements.
You have arrived with this great golden paint to give an impressive 3D effect!

It's just beautiful!

Thank you Jean-Paul.

The PE is nice and thick so that helps. Also there's around four coats of primer then four coats of the final color. That gives it even more depth.

Hi All.

Things have been a little chaotic at work the past three weeks as we've become a mass vaccination site.

Time in the shop and on MSW have been curtailed.

Anyways here's a bit more of where I'm at. I've painted the gun ports and I highly suggest you paint them prior to pinning the PE to the outboard side. Saves a bit of clean up if you are a sloppy painter like me.DSC00320.thumb.JPG.b743cbd4f174f80ac4c1d48254ef05f4.JPG

Mast coats were added with the edges rounded just a bit. Just something I like the way it looks. The gallows, main mast bitts and staghorn cleat beams were assembled and placed along with the hatch combings.

I also assembled a cannon and rigged it with the breach rope. I attempted the tackle but even using 2mm blocks and the smallest hocks I could make there was no space between the blocks and I did not like the look. So I will just be adding the breach rope.

Breech rope is often enough, there’s plenty of visual appeal all around on this model. Crisp work as always. I should use more towels.

congrats on the vaccination hub. I got my first shot today at the Texas Motor Speedway as provided by my county.  Very efficient and fast.

Towels are the newest modeling tool for me. LOL  Glad to hear you got your shot. We're up to a total of 2,000+ 1st and 2nd shots a day.

I am going to experiment with adding the rear tackle with custom made hooks. I am not adding the side tackle.

Thanks Glenn, looking forward to seeing how that goes.

I've made the bell standard and bowsprit bits. To attach the bell I used some brass wire instead of the supplied pin. I also assembled the windlass and ladders. As with everything else the fit of the parts was great and did not require any "adjustments" on my part.

Amazing as always. What brown paint did you use? It’s such a perfect match to the wood.

An interesting thing about this ship is the lack of a rail or high transom. It seems like the duchess could easily be blown off the stern during her morning stroll about the upper deck. 🤣😂

Thank you. It is Admiralty Paints wood (walnut) brown with some coats of dirty brown weathering power.

Also thanks for all the likes and stopping by.

Hi All,

The cannon breech ropes have been added and the cannon glued in place along with the shot racks. The quarter deck rail has also been added.

The aft deck rails are three pieces glued together to create the rail.

Here you can see the timberheads in place and painted.

Next up is adding the deadeyes and then on to the masts and yards.

You’re really flying building this.

The speed seems faster than it is as I've built various parts over a longer period of time as other portions of the build were drying etc. Then I installed them at the appropriate time. Also it shows what a good job Chris did designing this model!

Time in the shipyard has been severally curtailed of late and not looking good for the future either. So far I've been able to add the deadeye/chain plate assembly as well as build the trestletrees and the fore, main and mizzen top platforms. Next I'll start working on the yards when I have some free time.
