HMS VICTORY by Kevin - FINISHED - Caldercraft - 1/72

Hahahahaha. I guess we DO complain a bit about the weather Grant. In fact we have a saying here in the Colorado mountains :

'If you don't like the weather, stick around for 10 minutes'.

A highly dangerous virus called "Weekly Overload Recreational Killer" (WORK) is currently going around. If you come in contact with this WORK VIRUS, you should immediately go to the nearest "Biological Anxiety Relief" (BAR) centre to take antidotes known as "WORK Isolating Neutralizer Extract" (WINE), "Radioactive UnWORK Medicine"(RUM), "Bothersome Employer Elimination Rebooter" (BEER) or "Vaccine Of Depression Killing Antigen"(VODKA)

Thanks for the warning Kevin.  Fortunately for myself, I got immunized some 10 years ago and the shots seem to have lasted.

LMAO

Funny stuff, I didnt realize I was so far behind.

I agree your being way to critical of your work Kevin. She's beautifully crafted and the paint work looks fine. The Stern is magnificent, its coming along nicely and I like the davits and rear boat idea.

Dad was a 20 year submariner and he always came back with a beard and long hair. Water was like gold. He also said that even though everybody smelled each other, that any illness spread and was gone in a week and a half and then no one got sick. Thanks for sharing the pic's, of your youth and now with the 23 kg drop your new youth on the new deck. That deck will be a nice spot this summer and congrats on losing the weight. Isn't it amazing how much dropping that kind of weight makes as far as how you feel.

To Victory, the ship and in life!       Cheers!

without beating around the bush, i got a big surprise tonight, Facebook - i have been an anti social git most of my life - and never kept in contact with people i knew, but i seam to have mellowed  in the last few years and been socialising with friends who had basicly disappeared off the face of the earth

Through MSW i liked an article by Canadian-Nautical-Research-Society

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Canadian-Nautical-Research-Society/150946001632212?ref=stream

Tonight i have found they have linked a like to my build and now have about 20 progress photos within their site  -

it has got the wife quite excited

i continually read everyone cruising holidays, sun, sea, and another (another word beginning with s--)

do you want to hear about mine

oh yes of course we do - it's my thread - after all

Well here are some of the best holidays i have ever had - (HMS REPULSE) (PORT) , now decommissioned awaiting scrap, Not quite as glamorous but brilliant all the same - and get paid to do it,

Pay -good

Duration - Min 8 weeks

Weather - Rain in the engine room - depending on steam leaks

Sunshine - limited

Meals - good- lots of them, you knew it was

Friday (Fish) Saturday (steak) Sunday (pizza)

Guided tours - Expected of you to do your own

Laundry - depends on the day of the week

Entertainment - limited

Alcohol- yes - but dont

Church - all faiths catered for - provided you all support the same one

Contact with home - 0ne way only - and that is not out - 40 words - once a week - 80 at Christmas - but no Santa

Safety - so safe - we made pretend fires up - just to pretend to put them back out

- oh and carried enough POLARIS missiles to make the local headlines, should we ever have fired one

all the best

Kevin

Good afternoon everyone

after doing some more work on the 1/4 galleries yesterday - i have turned my attention to the poop deck, after the flag lockers were put in i had very little space above them so i have built the stern up another 2mm to give a bit of space, The sky light is in process of having 50+ windows fitted as the top rail for the port side is waiting for the under side to dry, nice to get back into it

Kevin,

We take time off from this hobby to do things important.  Rememberances are very important.  But now that you're back into the build... great balls of fire... looks fantastic.

good morning everyone - thank-you for the comments,

Hi Kevin, this one is on my wish list. It's definitely big, how much approximately does it weigh. I'm guessing that with the display case that wall mounting on a shelf is a none starter. I really enjoy looking in on your build, nice work.

Tony

heavy - i had arms like an orang-utan - after carrying her new in the box - ill find a weight for you soon - but she gets bigger every time i look at her

lol - you don't know how close to the truth you are on the remembrances

i lost contact with my daughter 15 years ago when she was 13 years old through divorce, out of the blue she contacted me last weekend through facebook - been a real emotional week - been brilliant - sad and and all the other things in-between - lol - its like we have never been apart - as we learn about each other and - well its just good

Great looking Vic Kevin.

Happy you have been reunited with your daughter, I have the same sort of issue and hope what happened to you is in my future as well.

Look forward to seeing more progress.

Hi Kevin

Your stern gallery sure looks nice and clean, a thing to be proud of thats for sure. I see that you have added the stern davits, are you going to hang a boat from them? It's nice to see that you have cut out your plop deck for the sky light that will put more light inside your stern gallery, I am thinking of doing the same if I ever get to that stage. Keep up the great work.

Regards  Lawrence

Hi Lawrence, i will be hanging 3 boats off the stern - because i want to fully set every sail including stuns, on doing so - i think not a lot will be seen midships upper deck so i wanted and alternative position for them

the skylight cut is as per the plans in respect the cut-out was already there, but the after bulkhead is solid so prevents any other light getting in there

and thank you for the compliment
