Johnsons floor paste wax is good to protect the saws and also helps the saw keep from hanging up when sawing

On the Fiebings dye you are using, are you applying on or off the ship? If on the ship, how do you keep it from creeping into the other woods not being dyed? Greg H.

an instructor one time at a finishing class I took, show mixing dye with ting oil and then applying to the wood. The stain doesn't penetrate as deeply though. I don't know if you used maple or not, but it has hard and soft spots which causes blotches to form when stained.

Burroak replied to Burroak's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Don do you mark the angle first or do you just whittle away at the plank till it fits? Thanks for commenting Greg H. -
Compound Cut
Burroak posted a topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I was wondering what is the best method of making the compound cut where the hull planking meets the stem of the ship? -
Elijah your off to a great start. Go slow and steady on your build. There are many talented builders on MSW that can answer any question you might have along the way. I'm on my first build that I started about 2 months ago and I haven't even started a log. Your ahead of the game already. Good luck to you. Greg H.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
