  1. Hello Ron, that's a beautiful model you built! I found the photos on this website which has full views and detailed views: https://www.modelships.de/Schebecke-Le-Requin/Le-Requin_eng.htm Amati and Occre both still have models of this type of ship. I think they are incredibly beautiful and my previous post has certainly generated quite a it of interest. I think it would be a very popular model for either Chris or Chuck if one of them decided to create a new chebec kit.
  2. I prefer the brown color, VTHokiEE. That's an excellent illustration of the seizing. What book or source is that from?
  3. Gorgeous model and fantastic craftsmanship! Congratulations!
  4. You're moving along quickly, ir3, and she's looking good. I'm afraid I can't help with your finishing question but you will probably get more specific advice if you post your question in Painting and Finishing topics section.
  5. It's good the hear that you've had no problems with CA deteriorating over time. I've seen a lot comments here in various threads that warn everyone about CA getting old and brittle. It seems to me that that is more fiction than fact from the research I have read elsewhere online about the longevity of CA bonds. I've also learned that I have to be extra careful whenever I use extra thin CA because a small amount will wick quickly to every tiny crack near the spot that you place it and it will leave a stain on bare wood. It is very useful in the right places though.
  6. The level of detail and artistry in his models is almost beyond belief. It's hard for me to imagine the number of hours he must have put into these ornate models to achieve the kind that level of perfection. His models are absolute masterpieces!
  7. This should be an interesting build so I'm pulling up a seat. I'm looking forward to following your progress.
  8. We've been cooking up in Sacramento too, Pete, and the air quality is so unhealthy from all the wildfires that it's really not safe to venture outside. Covid, wildfires and a record heat wave....ugh!
  9. Fantastic models and paintings. Thanks very much! Marple's work is amazing and his carvings are stunning.
  10. I thought I would put in a request for Chris' consideration since we are speculating about what models he might have in mind to eventually add to his selection. I love the sleek lines and lateen sails of the Chebec also called Xebex or Chebeque. These fast warships are incredibly beautiful in my opinion and I would love to see Chris make a model kit for one of them someday.
  11. Beautiful work and excellent explanations of how you build your models. I am very impressed that you were able to accurately cut your planks using a fret saw. I also enjoyed reading about your various models on your website. Thanks very much.
  12. Thank you for posting the photos of these amazing models. I'm not very familiar with these great warships so if anyone can sequentially identify the names of the ships in these photos it would be great.
  13. You only need to sand off the laser char if it is in a place you do not want it to be seen or you need to sand it in order to get a better fit for a part. You can glue surfaces with laser char just fine and the bond will be plenty strong. You can also use a good primer over laser char when painting over it especially with colors that are lighter than the char.
