  1. Yes, my brain was drawing a blank on the correct term. Also, the box art for the fittings set suggests that the kit is rather long in the tooth (as was also noted in the OP). If it were me, I would be very hesitant about plunking down the necessary change for after-market parts to use with a sketchy kit.
  2. It looks to me that the hull is pre-molded plastic -- the black item in the second photo.
  3. The product description suggests that it is not a complete kit. A detail set must be purchased separately.
  4. I do, actually. Answer published one in 2006. And here is a finished example, although the usual caveat about Polish builders and their uncanny abilities applies here.
  5. Welcome aboard from a Humboldt County ex-pat!
  6. Sorry to hear about your mother, George. Good to hear that her family was able to be with her. Your model is coming along nicely.
  7. My LGS had an 1895 Nagant listed just a couple of days ago -- sans boarding axe, though.
  8. It takes a rare set of skills to elevate a plastic model to the realm of art -- which partly explains why I stick to card models! 😂
  9. Interesting that there is a plastic kit company called Fly, seeing that there is also a Polish card model publisher going by the same name.
  10. What a great finish, James! And I agree with Chuck that this lovely kit should be a big hit, especially with those of us Yanks who have been clamoring for American subjects from VM.
  11. Ahoj! That looks like a great kit! Any chance you could post some pictures of the completed prototype model?
  12. Ha! I'm still waiting to put the final touches on my HMS Fly kit that I started in 2006!
  13. Is the lean of the masts due to the arrangement of slots and holes in the hull? Does the lean match the rake shown in the plans? Will knowing there is a lean keep you awake at night? That last question is the kicker.
  14. Gary, This is just the type of craft upon which to work your magic. I will be following along with interest.
  15. This is a bit of an understatement. Orel actually have one of the most extensive catalogs of such subjects of any publisher, if not the most extensive. And they are very prolific compared to some publishing houses. It pays to check their website (papermodeling.net) frequently.
  16. I always love it when fingers pop into an image -- provides a true sense of perspective!
  17. Welcome aboard, Aeneus (makes me think of Corydoras aeneus, the bronze corydoras)! I look forward to seeing your work.
  18. There is no 'best' model that will suit the needs of every builder, but here's what makes a good beginner's kit. It is first of all: One that has quality materials and instructions. One that a beginner can reasonably be expected to finish. One that is a subject that appeals to you. Keep those three things in mind and you'll find something to fit the bill.
