Hi Chris You can also try putting the flat face of the joint in a vice and use the jaws to ensure you get a perfect flat face to join together, Daves did a how to in one of his logs a couple of years ago using tape, a vice and chisel, done correctly they always come out perfectly, search scarph and daves from the lumberyard Regards Paul

It appears that the stops are for the guns maybe instead of the waterway which the front wheels would normally run up to, to stop the gun running into the bulwark The stops you pointed to for the gun ports would presumably be the same thickness as the ports, so looks smooth from the outside Regards Paul

Which flag(s) would a British Navy ship fly in 1830s/40s?
paulsutcliffe replied to RPaul's topic in Nautical/Naval History
The red ensign as on all royal navy ships, with artistic license you could use the White ensign if you wished but usually it would be the red, flown at the rear of the ship Regards Paul -
Let me know if you want to get rid if one of your other two versions, I'm sure they will be better than any attempt I could do Regards Paul

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
