  1. Congratulations on finishing the ratlines Sjors - a significant milestone indeed.
  2. Once again a neat blend of craftsmanship and ingenuity Danny. She continues to look better every day.
  3. Thank you all for the kind words and encouraging comments. John (Neptune) - welcome back mate. I think you just need to grab the bull by the horns and leap in. Perhaps re-starting a build log here will give you the impetus needed to get cracking. Ben - I know exactly what the next project will be, but you'll just have to wait and see...........
  4. Nice work Ben. You can already see the elegant lines emerging.
  5. Yep, wot she said! Fantastic work Karl, and a great tutorial as well.
  6. A beautiful piece of joinery Remco. You make it look so easy - the sign of a true master!
  7. Hi all, Another trip to Sydney this weekend meant not much time in the shipyard, but on the plus side, I was allowed to go back to my favourite toy store (Carbatec) and buy the 10" bandsaw I'd been eyeing off! We came home on Saturday night, so I did get to turn to in the shipyard for a while today. Managed to finish off and install the Driver Boom and Gaff. No particular difficulties here. The kit plans were close again, and only needed a little modification with the assistance of Longridge. Here are some overall shots of the day's work: It's on to Bow lines next, then Sheets, Tacks and Braces. I'm taking a few days off work from Easter through to Anzac Day, so will end up with a 10 day break. Hopefully, this will give me the time I need to finish off the running rigging. Then it will be Boats, Anchors and housekeeping only left to go. Did I say "only"???????
  8. Ooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Toys!!!!!!! Who's a lucky boy then?!!! I smell a scratch build coming on.............. oh, and Sjors...... 1=Anja, 2= Chisels.
  9. A very small drop of water will help the glue flow without significantly changing it's properties. Experiment a little and you will see what I mean. More diluted forms (eg 50/50 glue/water) is useful when working with rigging components, stiffening lines etc.
  10. As Brian says, thinning with some water will help with spreading it. I generally put a small amount of PVA into an old egg cup and then add any water I need to thin it to the right consistency for the job at hand. I use a toothpick for applying small amounts, and a paint brush for larger areas. Just be sure to wash the paint brush before the glue dries in it.
  11. It's also the order in which they go over the masthead Sjors, with the forward ones being the lowest (having gone on first). We'd probably let you get away with it, but I'm sure Mobbsie will invite himself over and rip them off if you don't do it right!
  12. Great to see you back and posting again Paul. I have a solution for your Windows 8 problem.............buy a Mac!
  13. Nothing quite like a batch of fresh timber from Hobbymill. Makes me start drooling just looking at the pics! Happy dance indeed!
  14. Very nice work on the Quarterdeck framing Bob. She just keeps looking better every day.
  15. Lovely work with the crows feet Mobbsie. I feel somewhat responsible for your "side project" but not the slightest bit guilty! Hope you have fun with the new toys and don't forget to post pics when they arrive.
  16. Tippecanoe make a kit for a T-37 that looks nice and might fit what you're looking for. There have been a couple of build logs here on MSW - one by Floyd Kershner as I recall. Here is a link to the Tippecanoe website: http://www.modelsailboat.com/t37sail.html
  17. Looks great Nigel, and I'm enjoying reading your explanations of your methods and rationale for using them.
  18. Looking at the last two lines of your last post Sjors, if that is true and you are still on MSW, then one of you has a problem!
  19. Thank you all for the kind comments and words of encouragement, and also to all those who "liked".. I'm really looking forward to finishing off the last parts of the rigging and doing the final additions.
  20. Thank you Patrick. Ah yes, the 10" bandsaw. Handy thing for a picnic, as the saying goes. Mainly thinking of future projects for that one.....
