  1. Wonderful Doris, just wonderful! I so enjoy reading your updates - you've made my day.
  2. That all looks fine to me Craig. Don't worry if you need to use a little filler - that has helped many a modeller in the past! Just take your time, as you are, and ensure you keep enjoying yourself.
  3. Nice to see an update there Sjors - that's some mighty fine looking work.
  4. Nice start there oldpaperone (name???). Your keel clamp setup looks good. Are those cam cleats along the edge? Neat!
  5. Simply beautiful work Gaetan - a joy to behold.
  6. Gil, I can't believe you just did that!!! (says he who pulled his whole stern off ) That must have been a right bi#%£ of a job, but the difference is simply WOW! My hat is off to you Sir (again). And no, we never get bored with your log Gil.
  7. Alright then! Now that Mark has finally arrived with the popcorn and drinks, I'll take a seat and follow this one too. Looks to be an interesting build Vivian. I like your ideas for improving her. I did wonder if the new windows were a little too large, but hey, you're the Captain, it's your choice!
  8. Alex, I remember following your beautiful build before the "great MSW crash", but it has taken me a year to find her again. What a beauty she is too! I just love the way you explain your methods - so many wonderful ideas, tips and tricks. I'm in for the long haul now - can't wait to see further updates.
  9. That's some very clever modifications there Nigel. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
  10. Thanks in advance Joe. I know that your tutorial will be a most welcome addition to the knowledge base.
  11. I'd certainly be interested Joe. This is one area I have yet to explore.
  12. Darn it Remco, now I have to clean a large pile of drool off my iPad!
  13. Your metal work is both cleverly thought out and expertly executed Danny.
  14. Thanks for that link QA - most helpful - and also for your thoughts and the ratios of various components. That all helps to make sense of it all.
  15. Rob, My guess (and it is only a guess), would be that sellers provide overall dimensions - in this case, length and width.
  16. I have only the flimsiest grasp of how the metric vs "non=metric" notation systems work for taps and dies. I get that the notation measures slightly different things, but.......... A search of the internet brings up all sorts of interesting information, but none that I've been able to find so far seem to give a very basic "equivalence" if you wish. For example, say you wish to find out what the closest metric size might be for a given "non-metric" size (e.g. 4-40, or 2-56 etc). Does anyone know of such a simple comparison chart? It sounds too easy, but clearly it isn't.........
  17. Very nice Rob. Love your "jig" for working off the model.
  18. If it really is copper you are wanting to blacken, then use Liver of Sulfur (LOS). Not exactly a household product but easily obtainable online. http://www.polymerclay.com.au/xlgel1liverofsulphurextendedlifegel1oz-p-13276.html LOS has the advantage of being able to be used 'in situ' on the model without affecting the surrounding wood - just wash off the timber. EdT uses this almost exclusively on his Naiad model.
