  1. Darn it Remco, now I have to clean a large pile of drool off my iPad!
  2. Your metal work is both cleverly thought out and expertly executed Danny.
  3. Thanks for that link QA - most helpful - and also for your thoughts and the ratios of various components. That all helps to make sense of it all.
  4. Rob, My guess (and it is only a guess), would be that sellers provide overall dimensions - in this case, length and width.
  5. I have only the flimsiest grasp of how the metric vs "non=metric" notation systems work for taps and dies. I get that the notation measures slightly different things, but.......... A search of the internet brings up all sorts of interesting information, but none that I've been able to find so far seem to give a very basic "equivalence" if you wish. For example, say you wish to find out what the closest metric size might be for a given "non-metric" size (e.g. 4-40, or 2-56 etc). Does anyone know of such a simple comparison chart? It sounds too easy, but clearly it isn't.........
  6. Very nice Rob. Love your "jig" for working off the model.
  7. If it really is copper you are wanting to blacken, then use Liver of Sulfur (LOS). Not exactly a household product but easily obtainable online. http://www.polymerclay.com.au/xlgel1liverofsulphurextendedlifegel1oz-p-13276.html LOS has the advantage of being able to be used 'in situ' on the model without affecting the surrounding wood - just wash off the timber. EdT uses this almost exclusively on his Naiad model.
  8. That's a nice looking set of balusters Sherry. Love the soccer net approach!
  9. Jimmie, The lower deck guns are "false" guns. They are simply a barrel with a "tang" on the end. Behind the gunports will be a strip or block of wood. A hole is drilled in this to accept the tang of the gun. A jig is usually made and used to ensure the hole is centred in the gun port. Hope that answers your question.
  10. Great results Mike - she's a real beauty.
  11. This looks like an interesting build to follow Nigel - think I'll pull up a seat too! Move over Sjors, and pass the popcorn please.
  12. 'Bout time you got here with the popcorn Sjors! I've saved some room for you next to me.
  13. And that differs from summer there how, Craig? Oh yes, I remember......the rain is warmer in summer!!! :P
  14. Nicely done Sjors. She's moving along quite briskly now.
  15. Thanks Lawrence, I'm going to have a bit of a play to see how that idea looks. Sjors and Jim - thanks fellas, there are some who'd say I don't have a clue what I'm talking about either!!! . But glad to know you're hanging in there with me anyway.
  16. Hi Patrick, Looking good. That Microglaze is what I used on my stern and quarter galleries rebuild. I have been more than happy with the results too.
  17. Glad to hear it Kevin and I hope you are feeling back to 100% yourself. I look forward to new updates.
  18. I think you are in need of a creative accountant Rusty, one who could turn your lathe into a tax deduction!
