A brilliantly executed project, Chuck, from design to the model build. I'm sure that there will be many other Cheerful models to follow thanks to your log and products developed along the way.

Magnifique, Michel. Would love to see your build log here. The work translates itself! -
Great job on the anchor, Chuck. What type of black paint (brand) do you use to paint them.

Oscillating Spindle Sander to get one or not.
dvm27 replied to Eddie's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I use my OSS pretty much every day. The tilting table is a nice feature but not essential. My ten year old one has been discontinued and I'm about ready for a new one. Looking at the Jet - great reviews. -
Bravo, Blue Ensign. One of the nicest Swans I've seen, scratch or kit built!

Yes, Danny, I did say that. And I really mean it after this model is completed! Your stagecoach is awesome. Glad you're back. Speedwell has a beautiful quarterdeck bulkhead (see NMM photo above) which I'm working on now. The arched door and molded frame has taken me almost two weeks to reach this point. Thanks for those who have commented. David and I are hoping to get the first volume of our Speedwell book into print this year (late, very late). It will give three options for building - plank on frame, plank on bulkhead and lift method. Volume two will cover masting and rigging.

Nice job so far, Rich. I can't tell from your photos but have you lined out the hull. It looks like you're going to need some serious drop planks at the bow!

That's what makes you you Keith. Most of us would have eye-balled that until we were close. Does anybody still remember geometry after high school?
-
Thanks, all, especially RichardG. Just ordered ten. Is MSW a great site or what!!! And yes, Kurt. I grew up watching Norm Abrams and Bob Veeeeeela and the current crew. You can certainly never have enough clamps for sure. Funny thing is, I've spend thousands of hours watching this show and feel like I could handle any home related project - but never do!
-
I find these spring clamps to be very handy but the two I have are worn down. Anyone know of a source for thes @ 4" length spring clamps?

End mills (micro) Vendor source
dvm27 replied to Maury S's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I use carbide end mills, preferable 3/4" length. If you've never used MSC direct it's a great resource. Next day delivery and millions of choices. For example https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tn/Milling/End-Mills/Square-End-Mills?navid=12106240 -
You're in very good hands, Alex! His work is reminiscent of Narim Majgeldinov (same style and finish).

Lovely work, as ever, Keith. Your brass work is polished to perfection. What steps do you take to achieve the mirror-like finish?

Lovely capstans, Marsalv! It does make one wonder about the practicalities of manning the lower capstan bars when both are required for the task at hand. -
Fascinating casting and the small boats look beautiful, Alex. It looks like you cast far more parts then you can use on your two models. Do you sell the rest or just keep them in case you mess one up?
-
Have you thought about how you are going to mount your model? Now would be the time to drill and tap holes for the mounting screws if that is in your plans.
-
Well done, Christian. Doing this in two parts certainly helps keep the rabbet crisp but you did a very nice job..

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
