  1. Keith- I'm hearing that they are working on materials to simulate wood so the finished product doesn't look like 'plastic'. At the rate technology is moving, we might very well see things available within just a few years. Like yourself, I think it will take a lot away from what we consider today as 'craftsmanship'...but you can't stop progress. If nothing else, it gives us a choice ---- do it the old way 'by hand' or step into the future.
  2. Don't know anything about this particular unit. But a buddy of mine is a polymer engineer and he used a 3D printer combined with his drafting skills to design and completely build a polymer flying model aircraft. The design included wing ribs, fuselage bulkheads, landing gear etc. Looks to me like this will be an impressive technique in the not too distant future.
  3. I believe I used a little less than 3/4 of the supplied roll (including some trials).
  4. It's really great to have Chuck chiming in. He's got some eye for these things. Frankly, I would not be able to see this myself. No drops or stealers ... I'll be rooting for you Rusty!
  5. Thanks for taking the time to document this experience, Grant. Those 'horns' look like an idea for other, similar situations. Congratulations on your perserverance!
  6. I think the real question is --- can he afford the copper plates? Maybe he should have her insured by Lloyd's when she's done!
  7. Looks great. Yes, takes a lot of time to plank a big one like her ---- but well worth it! CONGRATS on the milestone.
  8. Whoa- that's some seriously nice rigging. Those 2 middle pictures make you feel like you're standing on board. Nice keel clamp
  9. Mowing the prairie grass......now there's a job! I think Dave has it pretty well nailed.
  10. Incredible handiwork on the 'sea of grass'. The perfect platform for the subject. WELL DONE, MATE!!!!
  11. I had some success as well with the Micro Crystal clear. Don't know how many 'coats' you used but check back in 6 months to be sure everything has held up well.
  12. Voila ..... total transformation! Beautiful. I'll PM you my home address to collect my donuts for the 'more than one coat' wager.
  13. I could not have made the choice to terminate V 1 and taken a completely different direction. My hat's off to you, Sir. Very nice work on the new plug and please be gentle with these latest pieces. Fiddly work, to say the least. And congrats on the new vise --- might be worth thinking about.
  14. Chuck??? It's Ben who holds the land speed record for # of coats! He's even gotten me up to 10 --- and I used to use a roller.
