exactly! the nuts of it Dee Dee is.......you got a nice build here. there may be a few small details that aren't quite right, but your effort shows though like a beacon. you could do like I did and scratch out another ship........I went 'off subject' with my lobster boat......made for a real fine time of it, as a result. I wouldn't change a thing with this one though........you did great!

ohhhhhh!.......I see your point the bad thing about balsa, is that it's quite prone to dings and nicks. yours is the first I've heard that used it in hull planking.......it is also quite flexable. with my lobster boat, they supply balsa panels for the planking. not being used to this, I made a holy 'ole mess of it.......so I planked it over........made for a great base, it did! another beauty of this wood, is you really didn't add a whole lot of weight to the build.......could be a problem, in the armor department though. so, you should be quick with the second planking or 'he who shall not be named' and his cotton balls, will make a mess of things........I'm surprised he didn't scope you out already :0 LOL!!!

there is a lot of useful wood in the cast off stuff........I save all of it. in making a certain part, I can also look at the punch outs as well. a part from another kit, may have the general shape your looking for......with only minor modification, of course. I can even create different hulls, using them as templates.

I got them all cut out.....ready for the sewing machine.......work in progress thanks for the good word, my friend!

very cool how you show the changes that a few years makes. ships are refitted many times in their lifetime......look at the Cutty, for instance. wonderful work indeed!

they've probably seen it........it in the background in some of the pictures.......LOL! it's still our secret augie....we share the interest thanks popjack.......I have two tables on one side of our computer room. I go as far as I can on one build, until I have to let it dry.....then I go on to another build. I juggle the steps as I go. everyone has a different method.....for me, this works well, because while I'm working on one build, I come up with ideas for the others.........this way I don't lose my train of thought. yes, this works extremely well as far as paint goes.....I like to let things dry overnight....plenty of time for the paint to cure. if you do decide to try it, I would suggest keeping the builds pretty much the same scale.......takes away one aspect to worry about. the one thing to remember......if you enjoy what your doing, it will always remain fun. thanks for looking in on my builds......glad you enjoy them.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
