  1. seems like the cat is out of the bag........yes, BB USA is no more. due to slow sales and the inability to get their orders in a timely manner. not much more to tell.......the rest of the info I got is already here..........I love the billing's paint. smells like hell, but has a nice finish.
  2. glad to hear Adam......one thing though.....premixing stuff might not last as long as you might think. something about mixing different chemicals together...might accelerate or alter the structure...oh, heck, it might not have too long of a shelf life.. time will tell. glad to hear your enjoying the hobby......the only way to get better, is to do as much as you can. have fun and don't get discouraged with anything. folks here are very nice......many will help if they can.
  3. thanks Sherry & Padeen.......Adam & Frank! I appreciate the good word been kinda busy this morning, so I Haven't been to the table yet.......but I will. gee Frank........the multi build got you huh.....well, I want to do three boats, but I'll settle for two. they are to be my next project build.....tell you more when I get to them. funny....you didn't say anything about the 'in progress' list. you'll see the other one soon.
  4. I'll have to look back in you log Andy ......I wasn't really trying to mimic anyone's method...just the concept. I don't do anything with acrylics, although I just got three weathering kits...armor, figures, and trains. they are acrylics.......completely new to me. originally, I wasn't going to do this.....I was just going to make them the way I usually do. but this is the way they are in the kit...so, I did them thanks for the good word..... I started on the Nordkap in August of 2010........my first build. I haven't stopped since. the AmericA will be my ninth.
  5. yepper! your doing quite well..........now that the shrouds are done........now let's see how fast you can do the rungs
  6. hi Patrick........baby's first planks thanks Tim.....all the deck panels that needed to be made, are done. at this point, I'm not real sure how I want to go about this. I might just do the hull planking even with the main deck line, and then do the deck planking after. it is kinda, a scary thought though.....I already broke one of the bulwark posts. it's a toss-up.......the kit is very nice, in spite of all the missing parts. I'm just inching along Sjors this will give you a good idea in the different woods used in these kits. I'm a bit interested myself
  7. thanks Augie.......I really like how the light boxes came out.......better than those plastic ones {should have reposted the picture of them} not much left......#9 almost in the books!
  8. I tried my hand at making flemish coils.........this'll make the flemish folks roll on the floor......that's for sure! using clear cello and push pin, the set up began. a piece of pine board covered with plastic wrap was the recieving end of the jig. the only problem with this is the glue used won't be able to breathe......as shown above. the outside was dry, but the inside was still a bit wet. I did get a few good ones out of it though. if they don't look too bad.....I'll use them. I'll save the others for something else. the anchors were coming along........the thickness was sanded down and then rounded. the holes were drilled in the upper part, where the iron bar {not included} and the chain will be located. some of the coils were set in place . other rope coils were made as well, and set in place. the anchors were given a coat of paint. some more coils were laid down........not as good as the first ones..........but they'll do, I guess
  9. the finish of the AmericA is going along........kinda slow, but when it comes......it just slaps you in the face. the light boxes are cementd on the shrouds and allowed to dry. now that they are dry, I'm sure that they can take the weight of the lights.
  10. did a bit more in the last couple of days. they show the transom and counter planked in the next step. I had already cemented on the brackets for it, so I figured I'd do it before the planking.....it makes sense. this bit of planking requires three different widths of wood .....4mm 5mm and 6mm for the bottom. the 6mm is done in a diagonal pattern than the upper planks.....kind of a cool arrangement. the mid counter is the 5mm.......the upper part of the transom is the 4mm. now that the planking is on there, it needs to be trimmed and sanded. I'll do some of it now, and the rest of it will be done when the frame is fared.
  11. looking forward in seeing you get back in the saddle....so to speak the admiral would like to get another camera.......I'm going to try and put in my two cents......for a few more bells and whistles.
  12. looking good Sjors........I'll have to use that idea when I get to do the Gothenborg
  13. I saw it, my friend........now with your mind clear....you can continue. I'll look forward in seeing this build come alive....well done!
  14. finishing it the way you did, didn't feel right....huh. that goes back to the old question......when is a build finished. now you fell good......all is right with the world........great finish man!
  15. exactly! the nuts of it Dee Dee is.......you got a nice build here. there may be a few small details that aren't quite right, but your effort shows though like a beacon. you could do like I did and scratch out another ship........I went 'off subject' with my lobster boat......made for a real fine time of it, as a result. I wouldn't change a thing with this one though........you did great!
  16. darn it........I did it again! ........forgot to hit the post button. sorry Daniel........thanks for the good word! getting some rope coils together as we speak........trying out making flemish coils thanks Bob.......getting down to the wire....hopefully soon.
  17. ohhhhhh!.......I see your point the bad thing about balsa, is that it's quite prone to dings and nicks. yours is the first I've heard that used it in hull planking.......it is also quite flexable. with my lobster boat, they supply balsa panels for the planking. not being used to this, I made a holy 'ole mess of it.......so I planked it over........made for a great base, it did! another beauty of this wood, is you really didn't add a whole lot of weight to the build.......could be a problem, in the armor department though. so, you should be quick with the second planking or 'he who shall not be named' and his cotton balls, will make a mess of things........I'm surprised he didn't scope you out already :0 LOL!!!
  18. there is a lot of useful wood in the cast off stuff........I save all of it. in making a certain part, I can also look at the punch outs as well. a part from another kit, may have the general shape your looking for......with only minor modification, of course. I can even create different hulls, using them as templates.
  19. thanks Ron.....yepper....the Goth is next. the others are for tension relief. I don't have much left to go on the AmericA....I hope to heve her done soon.
  20. very nice planking Sherry.........are you sure you want to do a second planking? looking like that, I'd try to stain a section first, just to see how it would look chard is my favorite.......next to spinach, of course
  21. progress.........pictures. you've whet our appetites........more eye candy please
