Congratulations on the sale, Eric. As for the sidewheeler, I hate to see all wonderful engine work being covered up. Have you considered that one side using plexiglass to "simulate" the wall? Some of the plastic guys do this (there's German U-boat going on that comes to mind). But, builder's choice and I'm loving watching this.

Frolick: They do have an "add-on" for the La Venus monograph which provides additional drawings. I don't have that one, just the original. There'is the La Belle Poule monograph in which the plans are set for bulkheads, not frames. Le Renommee of 1744 has a monograph. And there's the latest frigate monograph for L' Hermione. I'm not sure it qualifies as true frigate but also Bonhomme Richard.

From what I gather the "windows" were removed as part of "Quarters!" and left open much like the grates were removed and sent down. My disclaimer is I'm not sure this was done by all the navies. As for the metal rods, it's purpose was basically to keep anything falling from up high doing damage.

I'd be careful with that one. I've heard of people getting into some minor trouble for "polluting". But, most of us have probably done it. Even floated some and shot at them with a BB gun.

If what Lou suggests doesn't work, try some rubbing compound. The fine the grade the better. I've used that in the past and it leaves a very smooth finish. Just don't over do it or you'll rub through the paint.

One of the problems with scanners is that they do not produce exact copies even at 100% to prevent the counterfeiting of money. You can do what Tony suggests but also if you first scan a ruler at the size needed, you can then check and see what needs to be tweeked as far as size using photoshop or similar. The other way is to find an architectural copy shop that does copies for architects. They will automatically produce an exact copy scaled down. I use both methods depending on the size of the original. Nope.. not legal to share plans.

Eyebolts are pretty easy to make if you don't want to buy them. Some thin copper or brass wire (appropriate to the existing ones) and small drill bit the size of the hole on the existing ones. Pull a length of wire over the bit and twist. It'll take a bit of practice to sort out how much tension to use when twisting but it isn't all that hard. A lot of scratch builders make their own. Do you have a photo of the pawls?

Pat, the archaeological report says "This block was found concreted to the downslope arm of the ship's forward port bower anchor." That's it, I'm afraid. Doesn't tell all that much, does it? Interesting. Possibly then it was for working the anchor? -

I agree with what Jaager says. Buy it when you need or if you "know" you'll be needing it. As far as bending planks, one can go a garage sale and pick old curling irons (in various sizes) for very little money. -
