  1. Joe, Your last sentence is what this hobby is all about. And don't feel bad about all the comments. Ask the same question about any manufacturer and you'll see a lot of complaints.
  2. Popeye, Whichever one you switch over to... we'll be there. Lots of chairs at lots of tables. :D
  3. NIgel, Keep on challenging things.... If you're going to have lights in it, you best be thinking about that before planking or going much further as the wiring needs to be run. I ran into issues with my Constellation even though I'd started the wiring with backbone and bulkheads. If I were doing it again, I'd do it much differently. Brian, Nigel, Dan's was wood. I'm not sure if it was a Hasegawa.
  4. The masts look great, Matti. Did you change your avatar recently and I missed it?
  5. I love that deck with the colors and sharpness of the joints. Very well done. As for treenailing... tough choice. Seems we treenail because they are there and often almost invisible even on the full-size ships.
  6. Mike, I hope you'll do a build log and let us follow along. Interesting kit. I'm surprised at the "no second planking"... that's one of AL's hallmarks.
  7. Wow.. I did not realize how large that ship was until I saw the turret in your hand. Beautiful work going on there.
  8. Go for it, Nenad and don't worry about the boring phase. You got what you were looking for and that is sometimes half the battle. Have fun with the coppering.
  9. Chris, I guess I should have followed up a bit... I now have the plans I needed to sort this out. Boats are on gundeck, on chocks as Gaetan's plans showed. It was fairly common to do it the way you mentioned but also the way this one is. I think it was up to the shipyard, designer, shipwrights, and possibly even the Captain on how these were stored.
  10. Nenad, To answer one of your unanswered questions... the coppering should follow the water line and the plank runs can go below the waterline as well as above it.
  11. Floyd, Looks pretty good. But re-look at the bulkheads. From the lower pic it looks like #4 and #9 are skewed slightly. I'm hoping it's camera distortion.
  12. Did you try Office Max? Kinkos? Also call some local printing companies. Some of them can do large size paper.
  13. John, I'm glad I had the right stuff on hand. Have fun with it. I found out a long time ago that MSW is best tool in my toolbox. I hope it becomes the best tool in yours.
  14. Martin, Back in March during server maintenance, there was a hiccup and some photos got lost. The problem has been resolved but the lost photos were not able to be restored. The whole thing is here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/6021-server-maintenance-scheduled/
  15. Sweet work on the crane and armaments, Piet. I wish I could hit "like" more than once.
  16. Tom, The transom is shaping up nicely. I think what you're looking for is "transom timbers".
  17. Nice work, Mobbsie. Congrats in advance on all the celebrating. I won't even begin to try to sort out Sjors's age which apparently is somewhere between 18 and 81..???
  18. Beautiful metalwork, Grant. And thanks for the step by step.
  19. E&T, I've been using about 1/2 hour. For a bit there, I was cleaning with acetone after buffing with the Scotch-Brite... but cleaning with acetone after the vinegar seems to work better for me. I'm not sure why....
  20. I've done the same method as E&T except I Scotch-Brited the brass first (if it wasn't milled or turned by me) and then instead of muriatic acid I used vinegar. It saves some aggravation as the acid to me is a hazard.
  21. Thanks for the info on the wood, Vivian. Still, what you're using looks lovely. Now why do I have a feeling that there's a rather large scratch build in your future..... hmm....
