  1. Here's a link to probably the best line ever for model ships: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/2769-scale-miniature-rope-for-ship-models-by-syren-model-company/ The company is run by model designer and MSW admin, Chuck P. As for the tension question... hard to quantify really. Are there deadeyes and chainplates for the shrouds?
  2. Thanks for looking and commenting, Grant and Ben. Ben, The keel isn't glued on yet as I have to remove it to set the next frame.. and the next... and... yeah... forever. What it does do is give me the spacing at the keel and thus, helps to keep everything squared up. Once all the full frames are in, I'll do some fairing of the hull and then carefully and properly (I hope) get the keel set into the frames. I will also need to do some re-work of the rabbet and the taper into it for the planking. You're stalled? Ye of the checkerboard floor fame? Maybe I should just abandon all hope for myself now....
  3. Nice work, Piet. It's probably a good idea not to add the arming switch yet. You wouldn't want one of them blowing up prematurely.
  4. Thanks for the nice comments and the likes. A catherdral? Hmm... now that you mention it... Hi Alan, No on the framing techniques. Hahn used English style cants and the frame and spaces are off. But, since I'm fully planking, the framing will be hidden anyway.
  5. Thanks E&T. I think there's now a definitive answer for when someone asks about it. Excellent research and well-presented.
  6. Hmm.. scrap box. Scratch built waterways. The darkside is beckoning you, young Jedi... On a more "on topic" theme... nice work on the waterways and margin planks.
  7. Oh...Gazela... my bad. For some reason I read that as Godzilla and had a bizarre image of sails on the beast. Interesting method, Jerry. Which ship will be your test bed?
  8. Thanks Nenad. I liked that saga you told so I had to look it up. Very interesting reading.
  9. Coppering is looking nice, Nenad. Those grommets (metal bits from the hat), check sewing stores. They sell them in various sizes. What size do they need to be and how many?
  10. The fun definitely show, Piet. And as for the pulleys.. I only saw the picture of two with his name on them...
  11. Minor milestone... Half of the 42 full frames have been installed. Spacers have been glued into place and gunports are rought cut. Final position with sills will be done after the first pass at fairing before the half frames are installed. I'm finding minor tolerance build up issues but nothing that's a show stopper. Anyway, here's piccy's....
  12. Hi Carl, Good to see you back.. there's still seats available. No point in standing as this is going slowly. And thanks for the compliment even though I am a mere apprentice.
  13. Bruce, Post your professional details and anything else on offered services in the Traders and Dealers section. Just follow the guidelines for that section for sellers: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/3493-mandatory-for-sellers-new-to-msw/
  14. Piet, That is an incredible mine. But then, so are the pulleys. Engraving Remco's name on both of them is a wonderful tribute.
  15. Augie, It's not that uncommon since the wales don't follow the deckline. I think it's less common on American ships than the French or English. Stylistic choice maybe????
  16. Nice work, Dan. And, congrats on having more of the pitter-patter of little feet running amok. BTW, those two lower rails are the "cheeks".
  17. I think Tim nailed it. Looks like the view of the keel, false keel, and sternpost as seen from the stern.
  18. Dave, I'm happy to hear that you're not trashing the current build. I thought I was only one crazy enough to trash a build, so you're sane. She's fine looking build from where I sit.
  19. Nenad, You can try some semi-gloss or matt finish... poly or lacquer. Or, try some steel wool of around 0000 grit but test it first.
  20. Keep up the nice work, Sjors. On both the bus and the ship. I always thought that filler was everyone's friend. Was I wrong?
  21. Such delicate and tiny work and it looks great.
  22. John, I've seen it done. Use the thinnest thread you can find, even thinner than the kit rope. Sanding and/scraping does become issue however as it tends to fuzz the thread.
