  1. Casey, Here's another way: Grab some cardstock and trace out what you have for the large piece of wood.. then carefully fit it to the hull, trimming as necessary. When the fit if perfect, copy that template to the wood. Try the template on the other side and see what needs fitting. When done, carefully cut out the wood and leave some meat on it. Then carefully, sand and fit.
  2. Grant, New toys...yep the darkside is so close we can smell it. Congrats on the promotion. Funny thing, I think we spend as much time figuring out what we we're going to make and how to make it as we making the bits and pieces. But that's life in the darkside.
  3. Marius, You can see the mistakes but to me it looks pretty good. Remember, this is a learning project and it looks like you've done very well. Keep up the good work.
  4. Impressive ropewalk... and that goes for the tow truck as well. That truck is a novel idea.
  5. I just had to go back to your first post in this log. First build??? You're not just doing excellent work, you're better than excellent.
  6. NIce work on the lettering. Better than anything I could (or most of the people I know in real life) could do. I had to look at several times and it still looks perfect. Sometimes, it seems, technology just doesn't work and the "old" ways are the best.
  7. Hank, You should know by now that we are a patient lot... with one or two exceptions....
  8. Daniel... I found it.. I found this: http://nautarch.tamu.edu/Theses/abstracts/simmons.html Basically, everything you might have wanted to know (or not know) about the...um...er.... "facilities" on board a ship.
  9. Matti, Have a look here... http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/468-thank-you-bill-short-for-sponsoring-model-ship-world/?hl=%2Bbill+%2Bshort+%2Bcarving It's not a video but a book and well worth it. Bill is a member here and his log: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/1356-sovereign-of-the-seas-by-bill-short-sergal-1637-scale-178-port-side-as-built-starboard-side-as-presented-to-king-charles-i-for-approval/page-1?hl=sovereign
  10. That is some seriously nice etching work. I guess one of these days I'll probably have to look into this process.
  11. Daniel, Are saying there's smaller line than that? If not, you might want to make the shrouds a bit larger in diameter. Rigging looks great.
  12. Have a good vacation, wefalck. I'm looking forward to seeing this all come together, but I'll be patient.
  13. Here's your award: Yes.. onto the case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh.. fireworks were mentioned....
  14. Thanks guys... ok... the short-timer's calendar is running. Day's like the last two make me realize that I'm getting too old for this work stuff. We have heavy forest fires going on down here in Southern Oregon. About 40,000 acres burned since the 26th of July and valley that Medford is in is filling with smoke. Which causes problems on the air conditioning at work. Which, even though I'm in IT, I have to monitor the switch rooms and temperatures, etc. Long story short, one of the units had some..er... issues. Filled one switch room and my "lab" with heavy smoke. Which has created other problems. Hopefully, everything has been fixed and I can go back to being a run of the mill cubicle convict tomorrow. Hmm... I'm babbling aren't I, when I could be trimming gunports.
  15. Sweet work. What you're doing is something that every kid (boy or girl) should have... practical, hands on knowledge. They may go into some theoretical such as physics but they'll have the bit of confidence that comes this type of education... <ok... kicks soapbox back in corner> <grabs popcorn> I'll be good now and just watch and admire.
  16. That is a wonderful boat, Bob. Coloring, furniture... gives an air of a simpler time.
