    Charley54, Thank you for letting me know you browsed through the log and that you enjoyed it. Well, you absolutely right about a journey. Packing the workshop twice and moving. Now located in Centralia. But yes, she is a joy to work with. I see there are corners to cut in order to make parts. Then again, I don't. With a new camera I hope to be able to document upcoming logs along with this one better. I realized pictures and writing down progress is good to have. Until next update - Happy Modeling!

    Hank, you finally have a functional shop, semi-cluttered as well. Just the way it supposed to be. However I couldn't find a single saw dust in the pictures.😉 Have you started the USS Stoddard - Fletcher? I see the box on the bench. What is the height of your work bench? The workbench setup in my garage is to high to sit down at, it's at standing height.

    Hi Ed, I am sorry to hear about the issue with the MS paint. When I bought my Bluenose the paint kit was included, however I never used it. It was way to thick to be used with an airbrush, even diluted. I got Vallejo paint instead, which worked really well for me, this is just my experience. I know several others has used other brands of paint. I don't know whether ModelExpo will accept a return, but I would recommend to contact them and ask at least. Finally, I just want to say Start a build log, so we can follow along and when you find yourself in a dilemma it will be easy for us to help you.

    Hi James and Welcome to the great world of ship modeling, MSW! The Red Baron is a great choice to get started. Many of us (me included), starts with something that looks great but provides more challenges than one can coup with. Looking forward to your build log.

    Chris, is there any chance you might look into creating a kit of more modern style. Don't get me wrong here, I like the old type of sailing ships and their sophisticated rigging. But one area of ship/yacht type that is still not commonly seen is large civilian yachts from 1930's and forward. Instead of cannons/rigging etc the details will be on interior. Just my two cents.

    Bolin, I take that is your last name 😇, The "Rospiggen" is on the flag of Österåker municipality. Where I grew up. I am so happy to see this build log, as I also have the plans. During my last visit to Sweden, I went to Eskader and got some plans for scratch building along with this one. I will certainly follow this log with huge interest. Thank you for it.

    Neil I, together with the Admins and Moderators of MSW extends a warm We are all here to help each other when we are facing issues with our builds, this happens to all of us, regardless skills. Build logs are our friend, a source to find help and ask for the same.

    Adam, Welcome back to us, we are right now seeing more and more "old" members coming back. As you see the layout has changed but in general all is the same.

    Greg, the layout sure has changed during the past 10 years and to top it off "The Crash" in 2013 when we lost everything. With that being said, I also like to Welcome you back and enjoy your time with us.

    1, I simply used some hairspray of my wife's. Does the same job and was way cheaper, if is better? I don't know but still after three years it's holding up. This is just to keep the "ink" from smearing. 2, I personally used diluted wood glue, yes the frieze curled up a little bit because of the extra water, but after sitting a little while I applied it to the hull and it was stuck. I am aware there are many other methods of doing this, and you will get more information. Looking good though.

    Olha, Aren't you a little concerned about the balance of the finished ship once everything is attached? Specially using one single pedestal. Besides that your Glad Tidings looks really nice.

    As for the VAT which is included in many European prices, VAT will be deducted on items ordered from Europe when shipped to the US. So far I haven't had any VAT on my orders.

    DevilDog36, I don't know if you have been lurking around in various areas of MSW. If you haven't spend some time to familiarize yourself with our layout. Create a build log, both for yourself but also for us. It will be helpful if getting stuck. Take pictures for your log, it will also be helpful. Thermopylea t the 1:144 scale is small and will be full of challenges for you. Just take your time, this is not a racing game. Go to this link where tools are discussed. Ps.     Wormwood, I like to Welcome you to MSW. I have heard similar stories regarding lots of small freight from China, not only small but large packages getting damage and no one will step up to rectify the losses. Instead they are asking for more money instead of just shipping out a new batch, this applies to electronics as well. I guess this has something with the trade war between US/Europe and China. But now their aim is also towards end customers. Hope your situation will work out, and that your CC company will step up as well.

    Pwog, First of all even though this is in the wrong section I would to extend a warm . It would be helpful for all of us if you would like to provide us with your first name. Now as for this Bluenose, yes you are absolutely right. This is a stunning job! But don't get intimidated, some of us don't have the tools to create this Bluenose.

    I wrote an email to Byrnes Machines, and had an answer regarding the motors in less than then minutes. The motors are not able to change for variable speed, this as they are capacitor start motors. I talked to my friend who has the sander and saw, he also said "Go for the saw". Which gives me a great idea. I buy the saw since it's more expensive with some accessories and put the sander on the christmas tree list. This way I will have both and less growling about a more expensive christmas gift.

    Richard, I just got back to my Bluenose, and I have to say.... the detailing of yours is outstanding, and I know I won't even close to yours when mine is done. However, you are an inspiration to all of us. There is always something to learn from others. Thank you

    Jaager, I bought the thickness sander used (very little) for a very low sum only two digit and below 50. And a Proxxon table saw I got for free, but not as accurate as Byrnes. A friend has one.

    I search with a spotlight though all posting regarding Byrnes machines to see if this question had risen before. I have the thickness sander that I use occasionally, I also have a Proxxon table saw (model older, but with variable speed). I like to invest in both at the same time but the account won't allow it, nor the Admiral. Which one to buy first? To me it seems that the saw is more mentioned in this area than the sander. Just curious as I almost have answered my own question.

    This tiny model at 1/350 scale was a pleasant challenge but now finished. It was a long time since I built a plastic model, quite different but I still remember the flaws from plastic modelling in the 70's. Now it's done and cleanup of shop is done as well. Time for next project.
