David, I think your approach with paper isn't bad at all. Think from a guest point of view, at a distance of 2ft plus it would be hard to tell, specially if you don't know the difference. I think the mast hoops were made out of metal and covered with zink, this to withstand the saltwater from the Atlantic ocean.

ClapTrap, First a warm welcome to MSW. See this galleon as a "cold case", you are the investigator. It will take time, but you will find the joy of restoring an heirloom to put on the mantel (if you have one). And yes, there's a danger to this..... addiction! Addiction to ship modeling. I wish you all the best and set up a log, I will follow you along.

To me it looks like it is siezed around the yard. Because the sail will be siezed at the yard when not in use. Hope that make sense. As I read the diagram, the sequence should be Sieze around the yard, line goes to block in sail, back to yard block then back to deck.
-
Mike, when a line has the type of construction line ( ----) that means most of the time it's behind like, a hidden line. The running yard should be behind the sails, if I am correct.

Nick, nice barrels. Regarding the oarlocks that below a rookie mistake, not even a rookie would have done such.😁😎 Sorry, I couldn't resist and I don't mean this as an insult to you or anyone else. I know we all make mistakes, me for certain.

Converting a Backyard Shed into a Model Workshop
Nirvana replied to Hank's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
To bad they don't have lumber - I live in an area where lumber is a huge business. But customer service is what makes them so much more better. My ACE has been in business for 45 years, true name is Lincoln Creek Lumber - Ace. Anyway, you're so close now and I heard through the grapevine your models are waiting for you. -

I bought the AC quality for my work bench top. Ace Carrie's the cdx as well, but they explained the difference. The AC is used for cabinets as well and interior in general. Higher price yes, but huge difference. Then they said something very interesting. If you want real good quality we can order airplane birch plywood any thickness twice the price of AC, but it's a beautiful plywood. Best part with a local ACE store, they care for the customers, they will know you by name. What they don't have at the moment they can order. And you are supporting a local business. -
Samuel, Your Bounty is coming together very nicely. Constructos' kits like yours are easy to work and have a steady progress with. When it comes to the rigging, this is the area many are dreading, try to be patience, look at the diagrams because normally the instructions doesn't help. Reach out to us if you are in need of help.

Converting a Backyard Shed into a Model Workshop

Hank, are you to staggering the "planks"? You may run into problems if not. Also, make sure you have space between the floor planks. They need to move to "breath" humidity, heat and cold will make material expand and contract. Planks drilled into place, never seen that installation before. -
Suparno, Start a build log, for you and for us...

Mark, my only Artesania Latina box which is about 20 years old has the address in Spain, I didn't know they had been located in Italy.

Hank, Are the models crying for attention? You must be so close to get done so you can start modeling again. -
Bob, Yes I have used it on clear coat, just making sure you are using water as well. I am considering buying new compressor with tank, this way you won't have any issues with dropped pressure, the pressure is easier to set and the airflow will be more even. Also the "paint brush" is very important, there is a reason some of the "brushes" are over 100 dollars. Secondly maintenance and cleaning of the brush is very..... very important.
-
Bob, did you experience the same with the white and black colors? It's hard to tell in the pictures. I have use the soft-pads available from 2000 through 12000 grit with success. The paint job looks good to me, and when viewing it from lets say 2ft and you can't see it - leave it. I know how we are as perfectionists.... can't leave it until 200% satisfied.
-
Richard, that's awesome. Did you get those plates etched? Nice touch to the final ship?

What I understand, it is still an "unidentified object" or UDO as I would call it.... "unidentified deck object". I don't think we have got the explanation to it.... Maybe there is, and it just passed me by..

At the bottom "About us" some company by the name "Excellence model kits S.L.U" is mentioned, but searching for that name provides nothing. But both facebook and artesanialatina.net are functional. Since the cover page is showing Test page and the very bottom read 2020, well I think they are back.

Olha, Don't know if Bing translator did a good job or not. Дивовижна збірка! Любов вони, як дошка просто впав на місце без будь-яких зусиль. Бажаю, щоб моя дошка була такою простою. In English, Amazing build! Love they way the planking just fell into place without any effort. Wish my planking was that simple.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
