Nice work Sjors...... that looks like a real hard job to do, you'd think that the kit maker's could come up with some simpler method to align the gun ports, something like a clear printed adhesive sheet that you could attach to the hull........ just a thought :)

Wowedy wow-waw, that's a big boat Sjors and so many gun ports. Great job figuring the locations, looks like you have hit it.  Just be careful when drilling into the wood that it does not splinter on you when the drill bit exits the other side. If I remember right, you have already experienced that in another build.

Cheers,

Well done, my friend. That hull is coming along really nice. Measuring and correct placement of the gunports has always been to me one of the most challenging parts of hull-making. Good job!!!

@Bug. Consider me a masochist as well, as you will see in my sig that the SotS is in my wish list. :)

Thanks you all for the comment and likes !

I shall now give some answers....( i Think )

@ Edwin,

Thanks.

I know slow and easy is the keyword for this.

I make the first gun ports with the sills in it and so far so good....

Only the gun ports on the top I think that they are to high.

So when the lower gun ports are done I wil place the deck and make one of the carriages to see if I have to change it.

@ Hennie,

Also thanks.

And we will see you next saturday  :D  :D  :D

@ Nenad,

Our hobby has always things that has to be repeated.....

And the storage thing is that we like it or love it because we are doing it over and over.

And you can say wirk instead of work  :D  :D  :D

Thanks

@ Frank,

It's not so hard to measure all the time.

Because it's part work they don't give you big drawings only little books with pictures .

So you have to read and take a good look and looking forward !!!!!!!

@ Piet,

Thank you !!!!!!

And I will take precautions...

It happened to me before as you still remember  :D  :D

I'm happy so far but at the end it will show if I have the right measurements

@ Bug,

Are we all ?????

We like to work with sharp knifes and cut us each time and still we love it  :D  :D  :D

@ Ulises.

Thanks my friend .

I think I also make a wish list....

But not with SotS......

I'm still hoping to see the victory from Chris.

But not at this moment....

I need to safe money for that !!!!!

Hi Sjors, I'm glad to see your way of marking the gun ports. As I am going to be doing my Sovereigns gun ports in the next week, it gives me a type of roadmap to go by. Are you doing any extras in your Sovereign build as you advance forward? I'm thinking of having my lowest gun deck with all of the doors in the closed position to give it some contrasting view. Till later Mike.

Thanks Pat and Mike.

@ Pat,

I think that you meaning that it is easy to cut out all those gun ports ( 66 ) and place the sills .....

Yep, it worked  :D  :D

On one side the first 33 gun ports are done !

No pictures yet because I want to show you the whole picture of all the gun ports !

@ Mike,

I will come to your log to give you some hints ( I think )

I will place all the gun port lids just open with visible canons.

The only thing that I maybe gonna change is the black colour on top.

I have seen a blue one and I like that very much.

For the rest I will see what 's wil be coming on the way.

Great job on the gun ports and sill placement Sjors! I know what that is like to have some out of place and that is always a nervous feeling until you know they are good.

Thank you all for the nice words and the likes.

It's always a pleasure to see that I'm not the only one who likes what I'm doing..... :D  :D

@ Black Viking,

Thanks and I must say that the comment that was coming about the blue was a nice one.

You don't know what others will think about it.

I know that I'm the Captain and I can do what I want but when you see that others are agree with what you want is that always nice !

Thanks for all who are agree with me what about the blue!

@ EJ,

You are right.

You are hoping that the measurement are correct but it is wood.

And it can work.

When you are drawing a line in the morning, in the evening that one moved a little......

Then when you place the first canon and you see that it is right you are a happy camper !!

@ Hennie,

Don't be TO much exited.

You will see things that's not seeing on a picture.....

But you have to look for your self.

See you tomorrow my friend  :D

@ Bob,

You ARE retired so what make you tired ???????

Cutting out all those gun ports?

Piece of cake for you  :P  :P

When you have done 2 you can get a cup of coffee, talk to the Admiral, take the dog out and do a few others  :D  :D  :D  :D

@ Daddyrabbit 1954 ( 62 )

May we have your own name or your parents are calling you that ?

( you never know with those Americans  :D  :D  :D  :D )

Welcome to another journey !!!!!

I will take a look at your Victory ( when I can found it )

@ Sam,

My horseman  :D  :D  :D  :D

I don't sleep at all when I was cutting those gun ports !

Anja won't let me, the knife is to sharp  :D  :D  :D

Bu I understand what you are saying.....

I'm happy that it is done.

Now it is time for the second planking......

@ Edwin,

Thanks  :D  :D

You are talking in telegram stile......

Gun ports done, like the blue, keep up good work  :D  :D

But you know me.

I love interacting with everyone.

If I'm not doing that, everybody is gone and I'm just like Remy in Alone on the world......( I hope you know what I mean ? )

We are calling it ....alleen op de wereld.

Piet can translate this much better then me......

I know that sometimes you Americans are smiling because of my English writing.

No problem at all !!!!!

I know that sometimes I'm writing something down as I'am saying it in Dutch, literal translation.

Enough and now back to the build.

@ Popeye,

Thank you  :D  :D  :D  :D

It's not a holiday build but I'm happy that it is done !!!!!!

For sure well done on the gun ports Sjors.  And yes, languages can generate smiles from those of another tongue but in the end all of us understand what's being said.  I take my hat off to all who are not as proficient in English as others but still banter along with the best of us.  That's another reason why this organization is the best.

Yes, John, that should be "alone in the world."  After having lived in the USA and speaking exclusively American English for 59 years I still get confused and make mistakes and the sad part is that I do the same now in Dutch.  I even speak Dutch with an American accent.  I just can't win  :(  ;)

Very small update !

Because of the temp.

it's t hot to do anything.

High above the 34 C ( 93.4 F )

I have make the second planking for the upper part.

There must be some sanding, painting and oil for the part that should be not painted.

But first there are other things to do.

Like planking the deck and making the whales.

It can take a while before the next update.

Sjors. Great planking job. I like the way you left the planks a little short around the gunports to make a frame for the lids.

What color did you use to paint the red in the bulwarks?

Best wishes
