Danny, it's not glued down, the idea is do up the entire structure but not glue it. Too hard to paint. It aligns on a dry fit, trust me!

looks so cool Greg.   I couldn't help but notice that you didn't do P.E. for the porthole rigols.   did they supply P.E. for them?

I didn't, the reason being the kit ones are fine, I have put a few on where there is no details. I usually shave off the plastic ones and glue on the PE.

I've discovered that ringols are only above the hole, there is a lot of PE that provides them as circles and I think it's incorrect.

Well, tower complete. There is a tripod mast I have to run through it yet and a LOT of detail to add but the basic skeleton is done.

Wow, that tower takes the cake. Never seen anything else like it on any warship model I've built. Almost a skyscraper of sorts. The sailors must have gotten a good workout climbing all the steps and ladders to go from top to bottom.

Nothing compared to rigging effort mate, I'm loving the ropes they look so real it's so bloody hard to rig properly at this scale.

The Japanese war ships are interesting in the way they are designed: they look like huge and very high scaffolding on the water, sustained by a flat and low hull. I suppose this is what give them this unmistakable look from a distance.

 

By contrast the German battleships are usually equipped with a much taller hull and lower superstructures. I suppose, again, that the conditions in which they operate (North Seas versus Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean) are dictating the differences in design.

Photo etch parts add amazing details to kits indeed. BUT so hard to work with BRILLIANT work on your part.

 

I have seen photo etch after-market sets added to 1/12th Ferrari kits - they make the completed cars look amazing!

The back veranda is done, this is probably all up the most complex part of the build as there are so many parts to put together you can't predict what must be done first. 

 

I think I might just paint the Pagoda and complete that just to give ale a break from PE.
