The Kits hull is very smooth, unlike its instructions and the real thing. Using the same technique I did with Isuzu, I used several oversprays of rattle can primer as it's quick and dries very quickly. I'll use some fine sandpaper tomorrow to even the edges out and etch in the rest of the panels.

The boot strap sits exactly below the last line. One I've done that I can start some pre shading.

Yes, out of hibernation. Not even grumpy! Just awaiting Cog’s research.

wondering if I can do chipping techniques at this scale......

exposed ribs like she needs a feed..

rusted edges on the side panels...

i noticed they have completely missed a large bollard which just sits forward of the capstan, it’s on the plans and the V class ships.

Needs shell holders on the railings

needs to dave scuppers drilled out

exposed ribs like she needs a feed..

get her alongside a supply vessel, don't be mean ...

rusted edges on the side panels...

how would you look after such a long time being cooped up in a box

i noticed they have completely missed a large bollard which just sits forward of the capstan, it’s on the plans and the V class ships.

did you really think you got all there is needed ... it's a kit ... thosea re per definition incomplete

Needs shell holders on the railings

what are shell holders

needs to dave scuppers drilled out <= ???

You missed a spot: Needs signal lockers on the bridge's wings (4 of them)

Crap, you’re right! Flag lockers.  Still picking on me.

My phone (I do nearly all my posts on it) has a wicked sense of humour with auto correct.

Scuppers required (holes in the side of boat).

Never finished, just have to draw a line somewhere.

day..........I've lost count,  of waiting for the kit  ;)     your gonna lose me on your paint techniques Greg.......you always do.......you do such a cool job of it.  what PE set was shown in one of the previous pictures?   very nice work of getting things painted.

I done some reading......all through her refits and service,  she always had the depth charges.  one thing strikes me odd,  that the launchers were added later during one of her refits...makes me wonder how they were launched early in her career.  the paravanes were never discussed,  although they must have had some use during WWI.   I saw a reference to having 4 oerlikons.......didn't know what they were......so I looked them up.   they are 20 mm machine guns

20mm_Oerlikon_twin_mount.jpg.6da6577c7297cb81884e5e67eb76f037.jpg

how tall are the masts supposed to be?  if they are incorrect,  it would be good to know,  so I can see what I have handy.   not sure about the bollards....if the kit is anything like the Jeanne D'Arc,  they are gonna be tiny.  are they really that large Greg?   I'm still looking up stuff.......got a lot of the pictures you've shown so far.

the waiting game continues.......

relative without being guawdy.........I like that  :)   doesn't tell me much though.....but that's alright,  because I got a surprise today.   I was out mowing the lawns,  and pruning the bush along the side of the building {to me,  the front faces Varney St},  when the mailman pulled up and gave a package to the admiral.

I got done with what I was doing outside {ran out of line for the weed whacker}.......it's in the 80's here,  so it was a good time to come in and cool off {lawns and bush look great again >Trump would be pleased<} :D   now....I didn't catch the name of the guy I was ordering it from.....shocked the heck out of me when I did.......I think I found Mark's doppelganger ;)

......and I can attest to how small this bugger is.....the Jeanne D'Arc was 1:400....I figured that 1:350 would be bigger.   I really like the decal sheet.......but wow!  the PE is insane at this scale.

not sure if you gents noticed this or not,  but the information about the model has nothing to do with the Vendetta.....but about the HMAS Vampire.   the HMAS  Vendetta, along with three other V&W class destroyers {Vampire being one of them},  were loaned to the Australian Navy {RAN},  and were nicknamed 'the scrap Iron flotilla'.   the Vampire was lost April of 1942...I book marked the article.....very interesting reading.  Vendetta and Vampire were together on quite a few missions.

You got yours - surprise - I've got mine ... the book on the RN V & W class destroyers.

Now it's your turn to shine Denis. Show us what you've got ;) (not just the box :) )

From a quick glance I learned:

The Scrap Iron Flotilla was a reference to the group of the V & W class as a whole. Got some clearifying pictures, some making things even more obscure, but hey, what's research for ... if not to get completely mixed up. Pictures, not yet. One thing I can attest to: The oerlicons were situated on a platform, mounted between the two funnels, where in this model two paravanes are meant to be ... so, no oerlicons in the regular spot ... did you find another Greg? Further possibilities: a pedestal neer the aft funnel ... the configuration of this build I haven't seen yet, but I'll be going through the pages ...

The Vendetta looks like the Thornycroft V class, whilst those equiped with the higher masts like the Shakespear class, however, this concerns the RN, not the RAN versions ... for those can be refitted in an entirely different configuration ... HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!

If you go the the Australian War Memorial website you can enter the name Ventetta and there is a video of her in her final fit out bombarding some  Japanese chaps.

the depth charge chuckers appeared to be put beside the after torpedo tubes (which were later unshiped), it appeared they were just dropped off the stern prior to that.

As to the the height of the mast I just matched up to what the kits size was.

The machine gubs seem to vary over time particularly when you have a look at the video.

I’m looking forward to seeing the reference photos Cog. There seem to be so many variations on the one ship over a few years. The next bit is directly from the AWM;

.1944. STARBOARD SIDE VIEW OF THE DESTROYER HMAS VENDETTA (I) (I69) AFTER CONVERSION TO AN ESCORT DESTROYER. HER TORPEDO TUBES HAVE BEEN LANDED. THE 4 INCH GUN IN A POSITION HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A HEDGEHOG ANTI SUBMARINE MORTAR. THE LOW ANGLE 4 INCH GUNS IN B AND Y POSITIONS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 4 INCH MARK V GUNS ON HIGH ANGLE MARK III MOUNTINGS. THE 12 POUNDER AA GUN FORMERLY MOUNTED ABAFT THE FUNNEL HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A 20MM OERLIKON AA GUN. SINGLE OERLIKON GUNS HAVE BEEN FITTED IN THE BRIDGE WINGS AND ANOTHER AFT. TWO SINGLE 2 POUNDER AA GUNS ARE MOUNTED IN PLACE OF THE AFTER TORPEDO TUBES. NOTE THE DEPTH CHARGE THROWERS NEAR THE AFTER SUPERSTRUCTURE. A TYPE 272 SURFACE SEARCH RADAR IS MOUNTED ON THE SEARCHLIGHT PLATFORM. HER PENNANT NUMBER, FORMERLY PAINTED IN LARGE DARK LETTERS, HAS BEEN REPAINTED IN SMALLER WHITE ONES. Glad to see you are finally in the game representing the western hemisphere Denis. Now all you need is the PE.

Is that a P-47 build I see you sneaking in in the background of picture #1?:D I guess you needed something to keep you busy in your spare time.

The Lowe hull done, firstly I did a black preshade for the ribs, then a dark red overcoat, then Tamiya flat red using a small piece of paper to highlight the ribs and a pinker red overspray.

Im actually happy with the depth it achieves.

I lnow it looks very red now but it’s only about a third of the hull with the bootstrap and grey hull to go.

once I’ve done that I can place depth markers then grunge time.
