Morning gents. Some idiot with a popcorn box woke me up in the middle of the night ... the shading, Greg, what's the ratio you use when thinning the paint. Tamiya I presume ... needle in your airbrush ... 0.15 ... 0.2 ?

Even a Thud can be beaten .... but lets try to keep this amicable, I didn't know this was a contest .... oh sorry US vs the world right .... have a ball boys, lets do some building Denis. Any ideas yet on what you want to do with her? I refrain from shading, and weathering, I need something bigger to try that outIf I do it on this one ... it will be an ugly dirty coloured blob I'm afraid.

This type was first equiped for laying mines. Rails for the mines were placed from the focsle to the aft gun platform. After WWI they were converted. Some multiple times, depending on the need ... even escort service - wonder if that paid well ???

Have a nice day girls an' boys ;)

I done some reading......all through her refits and service,  she always had the depth charges.  one thing strikes me odd,  that the launchers were added later during one of her refits...makes me wonder how they were launched early in her career.

Early on, with depth charges, they were rolled off the stern with (usually) two racks, one on each side.

I find that rather unsettling (and I fear for the world) if I have a doppelganger.   Or maybe I'm his doppelganger.

One never gets the proper colour across on a digital image when you want to compare e.g. print with the "real" thing

Really tidy work going on there - you cant beat a close up shot.

yea that's a P-47 on the desk.......it's missing the canopy though.   it's from a kit put out by Lindberg models for the Discovery Channel "Legends of the Sky".  it's a 1:72 scale kit that features two planes...a P-47B thunderbolt and a German He-111 Bomber.   I tried to get a canopy for it,  but since the Lindberg is defunct,  and the molds sold to Round 2 Models,  there's no chance of getting one.  I'm just tinkering with it :)   I might try and make one using clear cello and window maker ;)

.....now that the mini model is here.....I can bag it :D   I was going to play around with the Adam West Batmobile.....It's about 3/4 finished.   what can I say.....I'm a modeling nut!  ^_^ {I'm a slave to my own hobby}   that's great Sam........poor Carl is gonna wake up......and glue an unpopped kernel to his model :D  {scale's about right?!?!?!

I've been pre drilling the holes in the main deck and looking through the instructions.   I brought out a new razor blade for this one.......I've even had thoughts of using a freezer bag when I cut the parts off the sprues,  so the part won't go flying :o  .....so many tiny parts.  I do have to admit though.......this kit is detailed fairly well........not a whole lot of flash either.  so I'll be getting my bearings......and getting myself acclimated to micro modeling.

Vendetta had many refits.....either from damage,  or what roll it was to play.   are either of you two gents going to do the two white bands on the funnel,  for when she was part of the 7th destroyer flotilla?   she wore the solid black pendent I 69 at that time in 1940......and the solid black pendent D 69 in between 1925 and 1939........before that she had the white with black outline D 69 pendent {1st or 5th destroyer flotilla}.   how about Camo?........around 1940,  she had the two tone camo,  and soon after,  a single tone camo.  this lady went through a lot of changes.   I guess it will depend on at which period your modeling her at.

there were five ships that comprised the Scrap Iron Flotilla.....Stewart,  Vampire,  Vendetta,  Voyager,  and Waterhen.   I've been looking through all of these vessels,  as there might be a snippet of info that didn't get mentioned in Vendetta's article.  I'm using this site for them all:

OC, if that's a V&W class, it's the newer type, longer focsle, different guns, mast deviates, quite a few things changed. Thanks anyway, always interesting ...

If I wake up it's probably from Sam's crunching, or his clumsiness holding a box ... I definitely won't glue an old maid or a spinster to my ship!!! To much distraction for the crew! Can nee have that ... I like some decorations so I'll go for the one with the outline :)

You are willing to go a day without shaving  unheard of mate ... mini parts ... wait till you make the same model in 1/700 :D :D ...if you need to give your eyes some rest, you can always pull that bag over your head  but take care you can still breathe!

Dennis, I'll stick to the pre WWII version, no camouflage.

It's good she keeps a tight rein on the purse ... but you got contaminated with the virus ...

Nicely done OC. I'm not into the real modern ships ... to squarish, and sharp angled. Not much PE on that one ... is there now?

Main deck painting done, I used a Tamiya Flat frown then edged with some red brown to bring out some depth where the mats would be divided up, then a dark grey/ lighter grey for the metal bits. There is a lot of hand painting to go but I’m pretty happy with this given the size of her.

I added a Ww1 torpedo  boat boat photo from a UK museum to show the old style depth charges and the colours of the matting.

primer red - lightened up some.....perhaps with a tint of brown......kinda what I'm getting from it.   looks great so far Greg.....as mentioned,  she went through quite a few refits....hard to nail down what she had at any given time.   really hate how the deck and hull were on the sprues......lucky for me,  I saved all the fine sandpapers from the last Testor's paint set I bought.  the hull bottom is looking much better,  although the marks can still be seen {not for long though} ;)   I'm still amazed with all the molded detail....quite a bit for a model this size.  I'm figuring out a starting point still.......fine tuning the deck parts from all the sprue marks,  but I'll get there eventually  :)

Bollards came in this week - from downunder, faster than from Poland(!). Made some plastic parts in brass (for those with the building sheets nr C19) some pole with a blob on top (probably a vent of some sort),

Thanks for all the likes and comments gents. We're still a long way from home, although sometimes I'm blinded by the light at the end of the tunnel, it seems I'm thrown back a few hundred paces ... each time there is something to improve upon.

Still have a few vent poles to make. My brass collection has been extended yet again with 0.2, 0.3 solid, and the 0.5 o.d./0.3 i.d. brass, the latter I used for the chimney - just a few more rods before I can setup my internet shop

I'm still waiting for a few items, in the mean time I'll have some minor additions to do, like the blankets round the bridge's railing, a few flag lockers, remove the centre forcastle bollards, and replace them by a single slightly larger one further back on the forcastle (lucky I ordered both middle and large size 1/700 brass bollards). Some rather ineffective AA-guns to be made ... couldn't find something worth replacing them with, so I'll stick to the ugly kit parts. Since RGL bought all the paravane winches from BNA I just shall have to wait until they become available - he might beat me to it again I wager ... - so I can get them to replace the odd parts in the kit. I saw on a drawing paravanes were mounted against the rear sides of the rear gun platform, which gives more space on the poop. On Greg's drawing ther are two steam winches I'll endeavour to make. The cable of which should be attached to a paravane and would pass right through one of the paravanes stored there ... illogical place to stow a paravane, hence the change of mind. Couldn't find the storage of the depth charges though ...

So how is our third partner in crime moving along. Getting tired of flattening out those sprue attachment pointss yet? Or have you glued a part of another of your builds on top of the hull ;) I still am amazed how you can keep them separate, or saparated for that matter ...

I bought the paravane winches from Hong Kong! BNA was sold out. Still waiting but they’re pretty quick really.

Poor Popeye, so many injection points. You’re better off just getting some brass or Styrene rod. Saves hours of work. Can’t do anything till next week due to work.

Greg
