I have just ordered the Longboat kit,

That's great to hear! You'll love it. Thanks for the kind word but I wish I was able to follow you.

Thanks Ken. It was a pleasure seeing you and everyone else. Going to Chucks shop was like making a trip to the holy lands. :D

Well I've been whacking away and need to post a lot to catch up.

The rigging is mainly completed. There's a lot of line hanging all over the place though.

I need to go back and adjust all the line tension and make the rope coils.

I've also started to make the oars.

Here you can see the start of the tapering to thin the blade down. Still a long way to go.

The three stages. Stock untouched, handle attached and sanded and shaped.

Finished oars ready to paint,

Whew that was a long one. Thanks for stopping by and all the support!

I obtained one of Syren's stands for the longboat.

While I'm still finishing the rigging I've also completed the stand and six of the oars. I painted the oars red as they were on the contemporary model.

Well I've reached that happy sad day. The Medway Longboat is now complete.

I must say this is a very fun, interesting and high quality kit. I had a great time building it and I hope all of you

had as much following along.

Beautiful job Rusty.  I like what you did with the windlass.  I hope mine turns out something close to that. It looks very sweet....

So what is on your agenda now??  Anything special??

Thank you for your build log.  It has been a source of both inspiration and learning.....

Congratulations on completing your Longboat.  I have enjoyed following your build log and have learned a lot that will help me on my build.  I hope to see your Longboat at the Northeast Joint Clubs Conference and Show in New London CT in April.  Thanks also for all of the fine photos of your model.

Thanks Steve, I'm glad the log was of value to you. I look forward to following your progress.

As far as future projects I'll start work again on redoing the masting and rigging on my scratch built Syren again.

After that who knows! :)

Hi Ryland. Right now I'm sad to say that I probably won't make it to New London in April.

Keep up the good work on your Medway!

Joe, John, Jeff, Grant, B.E., gerty, Bob and Chris thank you all for the kind words! It's very much appreciated.

Joe L. Thanks for the support and kindness. It is slow and steady for me and I'm very fortunate to have a lot

of shop time at various stages of the winter. It's not unusual for me to have 2-3 hours a night and

several more hours on the weekends to spend on modeling. Plus the guidance and inspiration from

all of you here at MSW really helps too!

Thanks to everyone else who stopped by and hit the like button!

Wow...I can't imagine that your Longboat could have been made any better. To my eye it is perfect...absolutely beautiful!

I'm currently at the point of making the thwarts and the seats and, as a relative newbie, every step of this build has been a challenging, learning experience for me. The kit is fantastic and I love this model but I've made some errors along the way and wish a few things had turned out better. I nearly threw in the towel on a couple of occasions but decided that I should keep going and do the best I can and learn from the experience. My wife thinks it is beautiful and says I'm probably the only one who will really notice the warts here and there. I can only hope to be able to become as skilled as you are someday.

Congratulations on your stunning model.

Bob...the best thing to do is start a build log of your own.  I dont know any better way to get tons of advice and help from these guys.  We have folks building this kit at many levels.   Thats the whole point of the group.   Its not too late.....maybe start a log of your own.

Bob, like Chuck says start a log. There’s a lot to learn here. Sounds like you’re at pretty much the same level as me.  Many steps in this project were firsts for me. I’ve learned a lot.  And there’s plenty more to learn.

Thanks for the kind words. We all see things we would like to improve. The best thing is pushing on, learning, but most of all enjoying this wonderful hobby. I also agree with start a log. Best way to get help. I’ve been saved many a time.  :)
