Hey guys a little update.
I finished up the four reels. I cut small pieces of 1.5 mm brass rod to finish them since pontos didn’t provide anything. Now that I think about it I could have taken apart the kit reels and used them. Oh well here they are. They were  A surprising pain in the ***.  I’m not sure if I should wrap black rope around them yet or just paint the reels black.
AB535403-B73F-4584-B9D5-1C1B6EAE9BDA.thumb.png.21fd44afc4d123c51965b696c10d1bc5.png

next I ran into a huge problem but in the end had an EASY fix.  The break water trusses were easy to glue on though I had no idea how to install those straight pieces. Pontos is 100% useless with the breakwater, zero instructions.

but when I had three of them on there was a problem. It was very hard to have them sitting flush on a flat surface. So I tried to trim the bottoms of them but I trimmed off too much. This was going to be a major headache.  You can kind of see what I’m talking about in the next photo.

it was time for Plan B. I grabbed the kit provided break water to see how ugly it was. To my surprise it was not bad at all. Problem solved.  I am going to sand the trusses thinner. I want to drill two holes in each truss so it looks like the Pontos kit but I have no idea how to do that when the trusses are only 3 mm apart.( well straight holes anyway) Here’s the kit piece.

tomorrow’s a holiday here and I’m ready to airbrush. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow after I airbrush and take pictures.

Hey guys.  Fun fact. Did you know because of the spring equinox you can balance a broom. I didn’t believe it till I tried it.

after, I don’t know why the Break water looks dark in this photo.  The two colors are haze grey and deck blue.  I like Tamiya paints so I had to mix the colors myself.

That’s just what I read.   It’s probably wrong. But my broom balances it’s kinda freaky.  I guess it’s a fun maybe fact but probably not.

Not equinox, but Physics.

"The broom can stand by itself because the center of gravity is directly above the edge on which it balances. And the bristles are soft enough to spread out a bit at the contact point with the floor and provide a stable base to support the handle and allow the broom to balance."

It must be a slow news week. Just a couple of days ago they showed this on the local morning news here in the PNW. I'm afraid Jack is right, it can pretty much be done at any time of the year assuming a broom that is in good condition and a floor that is level, or close.

Hey guys. Just a small update, nothing to exciting.
I was going to wrap thin ezline  around the tiny reels but then gave up.

then I could install some more deck fittings

I think these balconies should have been deck blue.

with that done I can move on.  I’ll keep moving across the deck to the stern.  I ruff cut out parts for the next section.

Hey guys.  Just a quick update. I’m all moved in and spending a lot of time at home so hopefully I get a lot done.

I painted a few more deck fittings, I’m now in the process of shading them. The close up on my new phone is amazing! So many flaws in my shoty work are now visible.

Good morning,

so in case you haven’t noticed yet I’m focusing on the main deck going from front to back.
I have mostly finished the little section I was working on minus the guns. I will build them a little later.
I needed weights quickly

welcome home :)    the PE looks amazing!   nicely done!

really like you amp rig.........I play bass.  I have a Trace Elliot 'boxer 30' amp w/bass boost.  fell in love with it right away :)   I was taking lessons at the time.........when they got them in,  I had to try it.  I started to do a blues progression and the more I played,  the more the cymbals on the wall would rattle to the beat.  so what did I do.......I turned it up!.....so much fun.  best $320.00 I ever spent.

Two of those reels are supposed to have manilla rope, the other two wire rope, to be used to make up tackle for various davits and the like.  Black works, though

Those are the lookout/leadman positions.  Boggles the mind to consider needing to have a guy with a knotted line to see how deep the water is, but, when you draw five fathoms, belt and suspenders is cheap insurance.  By Book, yes, the floor ought be 20B--this will start arguments among modelers, though.

The kit breakwater has the lip on the top, which the Pontos one does not (which has been reported on a number of modeling sites for this kit; the pontos braces on the back are actually too long too, by the thickness of the wood deck, notably.

I assembled the floater net baskets today.  They were a joy to do! Really fun actually. I took a 2.5 mm rod, put it into my third hand and used that for the assembly.  It worked great.

I accidentally smooshed one before gluing the legs on. 20 minutes of feverishly bending to try to fix it kinda worked. I did the best I could to save it.   I’m sure you can notice which one it was.

Ugh, The dreaded ammo racks...

after thinking about it I decided to remove the tabs at the bottom of the ammo racks.  It will make my life much much easier right now.

so now I can just rest the tub on a flat surface. Now when I insert the ammo racks they should already be in place at the bottom.

look at that!! I’m a genius!

Just glue it up.  Now each new rack can just rest on the rack below it.

though I don’t like that sloppy glue blob.
