Also are you cutting the bronze plate on your table saw? They seem so exact.

I am very envious of your soldering skills. I am not seeing any heat sinks? How are you keeping the previous joints from melting?.

hello Kevin and thank you for your appreciation.
As you can also see from the last photo, I am using a heat-absorbing paste to protect the soldering done previously and I must say that it works very well!
I simply cut the sheet metal with a pair of scissors as the thickness is very thin (0.25 mm). You can't see it in the photo but I use a wooden counterform for assembly.

One trick when silver soldering is to paint joints you want to protect using a paste of yellow ochre powder in water. A jeweler taught me this technique.

A different approach to protect some silver soldering joints in short distances from each other is to use silver solder, mild, middle or hard (requiring the highest heat) in stepped succession, i.e. hard solder first and then down the temperature  line. These silver solders are available in sheet or wire form.

If the joints are close, even with different melting point solder, the ochre technique is insurance! And yes, it is regular yellow ochre powder. Just mix it into a slurry with a little water and paint it over the joint to be protected.

Are you using a Smith’s  little torch or a soldering iron. I am now setting up my soldering work station. I finially got the Smiths torch working correctly however All the fluxes i had do not work with the high temperature solder that i got from my Jewler friend. Just ordered a Borax cone and  plate on Amazon. He gave me three different sets of solder, medium, soft and extra soft, and i have the same honey come ceramic plate to do the work as you show in your pictures. I did put a wooden frame on the edges as it seems very brittle. This is to make up all the bronze pieces for the rudder. Gudgeon and pintles.

Incredible is the only word I can use to describe it.

With these few pictures I try to explain how I do my welding. The parts must be well cleaned and kept in contact. With a brush I spread the flux all over the part to be soldered. With a flame soldering iron I heat everything around until the flux starts to boil. Now it is time to apply some of the solder, which is a silver-based rod.

Care must be taken to protect soldering joints already made with a heat-insulating paste
