So I got up this morning and looked out side, yep still snow on the ground , so I ran down to the ship yard and finished the starboard side  copper. For my first attempt at copper I think I did ok. This is the practice side. It will be displayed looking at the portside.

It was fun doing the copper. I learnt lots from doing this side it not perfect but for me  it is. I will try to do a better job on the portside. Now that I have done some coppering. The Super Phatic glue is I think fantastic.  It cleans up with water, I had two place that I used super glue on and had to really scrub it off. So sticking to the Phatic glue.

Thanks to everyone who liked it. On to the portside  lol. Talk soon my friend's.

Oh Thank you all, and @Bryan Woodsthank you. It scares me when when people say they following  me because I have know idea what I am doing lol. And If I am doing it wrong lol.

The copper on the star board side is going great. Now that I have learnt how to use the glue, how the  plates lay, how to use a little  stick to clean the glue.20231119_144034.thumb.jpg.4515d833b5102cc6d4e1c6d02edcd592.jpg

This is all I am going to do today, got some silly  foot ball game to go watch lol.

I am going for the home team lol.

I must have look at every Pegasus  log that we have here, and thought  I can't do this. But it's kinda like put tiles on the wall. And I have done that lots over the years. I just have to do it a couple of times and then it's a matter of how much care I take to make it look good. But I do have a tendency to say " It'll Do" . Lol.

We hit 45,000  members today,  I have been watching it go up all week, lol been walking around the house  saying 985. 986 lol then early this morning I  screamed  45,000  yahoo. The first Mate says I  lost it lol. But who cares lol. I am just happy  that I was able to look at all these logs and give it a try . Oh yea game time lol later all. Thanks everyone.

Well the football game was a bust home team lost , lol. But I did finish the copper on my Pegasus.  It has to be cleaned up, but I think I did ok. I am very happy with it.I even have a little copper left for the rudder, some day in the future  😀20231124_143953.thumb.jpg.fe22acd47c850570b4ab390ad5490258.jpg20231124_144309.thumb.jpg.f20317362f41cc4d9039b21887be2ff1.jpg

So now that the copper is done I going to make the stand. @Snug Harbor Johnny made a wonderful  stand for his ship, and I am going to copy his idea for my Pegasus, well I will try any way lol.

Thanks so much for the likes and help so far.   This is how she looks today later my friend's.   20231124_144140.thumb.jpg.e608734f2de3a96a48643485c51a64f2.jpg

THE HARBOR STAND.  Today I made the stand for my Pegasus, I call it the Harbor  Stand because I got the idea from @Snug Harbor Johnny. Thank you.

Frist I cut up the pieces  and router the edges. Then put some dowels for a little support. 20231125_123755.thumb.jpg.ea07c35d6a50f107b31c9e24d2e71e73.jpg

20231125_152127.thumb.jpg.e2d8bc4408ea5b0d74470562187bb456.jpg

So then I stain it then two  coats shellac sealer. Boom ship on a stand lol

20231125_152255.thumb.jpg.a3dde4f5ed481e903da4cd3a9a5bd5a6.jpg

. So I took the ship off the stand to let everything dry up really well. And now I am off to study the plan to see what my next move is.

Looking up way to seal the copper so I can at least touch it with out putting fingerprints all over it . It looks so cool really happy with it.

Thank you everyone  who's log I looked at and saw how to  install things,  then make my attempt lol Modeling is so much fun. Lol.

Hey Bob - for my one and only regular ship model, Mamoli's CSS Alabama, I sealed my copper plates with 3 coats of satin polyurethane.  It's been almost 4 yrs now and I have handled it numerous times with no fingerprints.  I wanted to maintain the copper coloring and it does not appear to have changed its tint at all in that time.

And BTW, your stand looks great!!

Your Pegasus stand looks great !   The pins will provide the needed stability without the trouble of cutting a 'rabbit'.  The rabbit technique (with a snug fit) provided enough grip once the wood glue dried that I didn't need anything else ... but cutting the groove was a but troublesome.  Your pin idea seems very practical.

I would like to thank @Gabek for giving me this package of little swabs they were fantastic for spreading the Phatic glue around. A little swipe on the copper plate then some on the ship  and it stuck great.

So Did a little research  lol and found out I can just  could clear coat the copper. So after I washed it, and wiped it with vinegar, and rinsed it again I dryed it good and sprayed two coats of clear on, I think it looks OK.¹

Finally got the rudder on. It went fairly well, neanderthals have a hard time nailing tiny nails in the hull but it's done lol. I could not install the top gudgeons and pintels, so just painted the top one on , not really noticeable, It'll Do!!

I even installed the curtains lol. Now I think I work on the cap rails . Then move on to the bow and finish it up as well. There is more written instructions then pictures, so I have to studied the logs more. I am getting the idea, but the friezes are very small and hard to locate which one goes were, which way up or down lol but I'll get it lol.

Everyone who has come to the shipyard loves it they all go wow is that ever nice. So far my son and wife have seen it lol.

The copper plating is impressive as it looks realistic compared to the ones that look like they are held on with giant rivets.  Really nice work.

Your rudder gudgeons and pintles look to be to scale which is great.  Not all kits are accurate when it comes to these rudder parts and yours look really good.

Just as an FYI, the Admiralty did not allow the names on the sterns of RN ships except from about 1781 to 1790.  As Pegasus was launched in 1776 and was lost 10 months later she probably would not have her name on the stern.   Were there exceptions? Maybe, as there are a couple contemporary models and plans (Bristol 1775 is an example) outside that time period with their name on the stern.  Even in these cases I have some doubts that the ship itself had the name as it was Admiralty orders not to.   Then again artist license applies though for our models.😀

Thank you so much @allanyed.but I really just followed the instructions  lol. It just came together nicely.  Thanks everyone who like it .

so now the first  thing I decided to do was I had to drill all the hole for the eyelets ' so using an awl to start the hole I drilled them all. I super glued the drill bit to a dowel then attaching it to my drill the rest was easy. I got this Idea from @mtaylor log thank you.20231201_112544.thumb.jpg.41fec2085a077b7d45f762fe8c3a9d11.jpg

You see once the upper deck is on its all hidden. Working away, I rigged 10 cannons  put them on and glued the decks on. Now you can't see all that work lol, but it was Amazing  take my word for it lol20231201_194301.thumb.jpg.50f8834cc3acfe6c43283780be918712.jpg

So now I have 8 more cannons to rig, not sure what I will  do just yet,  in terms of how I will rig them, but now I can finish the  decks,  and oh yes my cap rails that's what I started out to do lol.

I have to decide what to do about my cannons. The kit gives you two options  one is just breeching rope. Options  two you have to buy more blocks and eyelets. So  I am going with  options  one.

Hey Knocklouder

You are ripping through this at high speed and doing really well. Couple of thoughts though:

- There shouldn't be any frame ends penetrating above the decks. This may be difficult to change?

- You have gouged some of the bulwarks to fit the cannons. Why do the barrels sit at different heights? I'd correct this and fill the gouges - it isn't too late for that.

Up to you of course, but those two things stick out to me as worthy of correction. Otherwise you are rocking and rocketing.

Cheers

Alistair

.Thanks @aliluke, As I was gouging the bulk heads I said to myself " this is not smart". But it Looked OK. But now that you mention it, yep try to fix that. I took some cannons  apart and reposition them.  They fit better now. As far as the bulk head tips, that one slip by me no idea why I did it that way. It would have been easier to plank with no end. But hey I am learning lol.20231205_170334.thumb.jpg.28087bd3fa7a49d9aba906b18b5148fb.jpg

Isn't that framing-being-visible issue something caused by the kit instructions? I see exactly the same in Darius's Pegasus...

No the instructions are fine - I'm effectively building the same kit - HMS Fly. Anyway, Bob, they kind of disappear now that you have painted them black. And good on you for fixing up the cannons.

Ok this is weird ,there's no mention of removing the foc'sle and quaterdeck nubbins in the instructions ,both in the written booklet or the one with the assembly diagrams But on page 6 of the diagrams their there and the instructions just mention removing the waist ones and on page 7 their gone🤔

Richard

Ah - okay. Maybe the instructions are different between the kits. For HMS Fly page 6 says Remove the exposed bulkhead tabs above deck level when 2nd planking is complete. Sand the remaining stub flush with the deck. There is a drawing showing this and it is done before you plank over the false deck. The next drawing shows no stubs above the planked deck. But perhaps, like Bob, you just paint the stubs black and the issue kind of disappears? It'd otherwise be very hard to correct and who's going to really notice?

Cheers

Hello guys, on page 6 of my book it says to remove the bulkhead tabs. But I thought it was for the eight that were on the main deck , I missed page 7 but now I can see that they are gone. The black helps make them disappear and the friezes takes your eyes off the deck and back on to the hull lol.

I do have a question? When I get to the end of page 9 is it all off the plans from here on forward. Or am I missing a book ?

Well that's it for today, I think I try a quarter badge assemblies tomorrow  😅

Thank for looking in

Yeah that's the way I interpreted the instructions too! ,I haven't glued the decks down yet so it was easy to remove the nubbins ,but with them painted black and under the rails their pretty well hidden👍

@Darius359au I would have a word with that Murphy guy, to bad about not having a couple of little peices left to fill in the holes. But like @aliluke  says no one will notice, and they will be covered by  lots of rope coils lol.

Slow day in the shipyard, had to go to the hobby store to get some more Phatic glue my new go to glue lol. It is only 45 miles away lol. It was their last one, and they told me their supplier was backorder, dont know when they will get more.

Anyway, got the quarter badge on and it looks ok the bottom part of the window fades in to the yellow but ya,  It will do lol.

So the window needed curtains so I painted the widow knock outs and put them back in . Like I say after it was on the bottom of the window fades. I might paint it gold but we will see..

How ever did that get in there lol 😆

So now it's on to the bow.

This looks like I better  study the pictures lol. The model looks intimidating but once you start putting it together, it just fits. Must be designed that way. Hats off to the designer  lol.

 So on to the bow...20231207_181553.thumb.jpg.1339ea0f9607a2a10a013d5439d91d52.jpg

You're one crazy guy. Fast as. I won't point out any mistakes or issues from here on because I just like that you are having fun and that's what it's all about...Manitoba - been there, Winnipeg at minus 15C - on Monday I go to Brisbane - looking at 35C, 90% humidity and I hate heat. Give me frozen streets. Rock on mate.

Cheers

Alistair
