HMS Pegasus 1776 by Knocklouder - Amati/Victory Models - 1:64

Recommended Posts

Add that Chris Watton designed it, And that's why it is a quality kit and why you should try his ship boats from Vanguard Models or anything else they make!

Cheers

Well the port side friezes are done and I painted the Pegasus  white. Was it ever britle, I broke both wings off lost a foot to the bling but added a bit of white paint to look like a foot. Ya it will do lol.I can see the foot missing, 20231209_132129.thumb.jpg.9d56f203773e30bf749cc72bd3b7ddb9.jpg

But with a drop of white paint it looks ok I guess. Might order a new one but will see.

The rest of the bow went together  pretty well, I can't  find peice # 288 and 128. They don't show up anywhere on the sheets. But I see them on the plan.

On to the starboard side, it's so much fun lovein it this is what I came up with I like it. I know Cris designed it, most likely  why it is  going together  relatively  easy . I just hope I don't butcher his ship too badly.  I really have to  finish the models that I have in my stach  before  they will let me  order anymore. Lol

So time to turn the ship to the starboard side and get busy  lol.

Thanks for the help and @aliluke please feel free to point out my errors and I will try to fix if I can lol. Thanks.

And as you can see I lost the tail on this side but I will  fix it lol.it went the way of the foot bling , gone forever lol.20231209_142327.thumb.jpg.ee27d482e098ce41ad1fdbba1bff553e.jpg

That's it for now.  Thanks for all the help and likes. Feeling good about my model today

Good morning.  You've already put pieces 128 onto the hull (or at least some of them) - they're the timberheads, and are shown on one of the ply sheets on Sheet 2. Piece 288 is a strip of white metal. Both pieces are identified in the list at the end of the manual.

Keep going, you'll have a very nice model when you've finished.

Cheers

Richard

Small update, When I went to put the decorative pieces on the streen it was yellow and faded away so much you could not see it , so I painted it gold . Then I said I might as well paint the window gold  as well. One side was easy , just spray it on, but I had to hand brush the port side window. It turn out ok.

This is what it looked like

20231207_181553.jpg.42c62740c57def7b6511673c699e50a8.jpg

And this is what I dd to it.

Now I have to assemble the other window, put the timber heads on and the freizes will be done. More later.

Well I found peice 288, if we go back to post #39  when I build the ships boat they were in there with the bell. I could not figure out were they went on the boat. Well I guess I just put them away and forgot about them. I was looking at @vulcanbomber log, thanks for posting,  and the light switch came on. I can fix it now, to make it look like the pictures.  I knew I was doing something wrong but c' est la vie. I just found it tonight, so I will fix it tomorrow.

Now I am in to the fun part , all the deck furniture  and mast, which  leads to rigging  lol.  I even started to think about doing the masts but there is just so much to do and it all fun stuff.

Well this was my first attempt to put the timber heads on20231211_161913.thumb.jpg.faed65f686fa739c423c7bac94430543.jpg

After looking @vulcanbomber log , and finding peice # 228 this is what I came up with, it's a little shakey  but for me it will do.

20231212_161005.thumb.jpg.4a7fecdc421147782da513f7fbf2922b.jpg

I need to do some paint thouch ups on some of the black, that's the easy part  lol.

20231212_161041.thumb.jpg.b3396d62ce690a09c908ec6d87514c56.jpg

So now it's  the hull steps, a couple of walnut strips and sheet 4 is finished. Then time to do the stairs and hand rail. And I will finish all on sheet 5 next.

Thanks for all who post logs I find them very helpful as my reading skill are not my best quality  🙂. But hey I love my ships lol.

 Thank you everyone

Well in my haste to get the Pegasus on the bow of the ship, ya you guess it I am a neanderthal lol its in about four peices.  Lol.20231213_231244.thumb.jpg.5420f68ae4f1e47d71bf5fabf9e2dfef.jpg

So my daughter said she will buy me one for Xmas. I ordered it today lol. Won't be putting it on till much later lol.

So this is what I did to the tiller housing , copper roof lol. Then coppered the Bincale assembly as well.  I was not sure if I wanted the skylight red, so I went with black  with gold windows.20231213_132155.thumb.jpg.24570d09ba967e0edf36b3502a0c340d.jpg

And this is how it will look when she is  all glued in place. I have to drill all the eyelet holes, and make a few blocks for the tiller tackle.  I fitted all the swivel guns, now I will blackin them and paint them up a bit. But tomorrow  is another day lol .  20231213_162142.thumb.jpg.a47fc8fbef946ee017e8a6581cc68bb9.jpg

Today I rigged the tiller tackle, and blackin the swivel guns as well as painting the brass on the holders , for a lack of knowledge as to what the are lol. I think  the look ok, better in real life than the pictures lol 😆 20231213_233211.thumb.jpg.2561d08a01e52b729ca53c82344498f0.jpg

So knowing  myself I took all the swivel guns off and put them away for safe keeping. 20231214_110328.thumb.jpg.38ff97f796031924d48e75213ca2e120.jpg

So nowI want to build the stairs and hand rails around them. Hopefully  I will get to the Mid deck bulkhead details as well as the bell tower today as well.

Having the time of my life, rigging is just around the corner  lol. Oh yes I have to build the masts first  lol.

Stay save my friends. Talk to you latter.

Well what can I say, it just looks so bare with out a figurehead now. Lol20231214_122702.thumb.jpg.3b4a8abdcdc9fe1eb88eae9272d12d1a.jpg

On top of that Vikings have raided the ship

Lol20231214_115908.thumb.jpg.a8428ca3d338de3a78489cea3455f510.jpg

But they left no stairs. Lol As soon as they  did I got  busy  and made one set of stairs.20231214_165608.thumb.jpg.8a789c0cf568076432435edb669cb927.jpg

20231214_165517.thumb.jpg.99a961aaefdb6a40425e76667d1e64a3.jpg

I was going to do the mid deck assembly  but I need to place the cannons  before I do that. Now I have to make a choice., option one with just the breaching tackle

Or option two fully rigged . I can't decide. Nothing is glued , just waiting to make up my mind about the cannons  .

20231215_105040.thumb.jpg.c78a6497a62337505934de8a341f838f.jpg

So I will make up the lower deck stairs, the Bell tower is finished, added a peice of copper for the roof, I have gone copper crazy  🤪  lol.

I  all so needed a quick  peek  at the ships boat,  it will do. 20231214_113905.thumb.jpg.fa9ef756da22b24f27d129a3f697898c.jpg

We may have a winner, but the tail is up not down, looks good but not sure will wait till I get  the replacement from Amati .20231216_182052.thumb.jpg.f25ccc81570e400fed4fe698c5bb63f7.jpg

So I have finished the mid deck assembly, had to do little improvising but I like it. The .5 black line did not go through the little holes  on the brass peices  but I drilled them out with a  small bit and it went well.

All the guns are on, the swivel guns look good, cannons are ok. So now just a few things left on sheet six, some blocks, eyelets, cleats and the channels left to pin on. Soon it will be just masts and rigging. Lovein it.20231216_183726.thumb.jpg.0f5c3a703fc1e73d83b64f8913b4f040.jpg

Well Anchors away, they turn out not bad. I have made four Amati  anchors on previous builds, and I learnt that if you round  off the Shank and don't drill the hole in the stock any bigger  , it works for me. 20231217_193010.thumb.jpg.73be10277de2817446f154d8d1124812.jpg

So I got all the parts together, blacken-it what I need to and put them on.

I came to the realization that I used the wrong rope on the tiller, so I am going  to redo it . If you zoom in you can see the difference. I think I will redo the ropes around the stair wells as well. I used .07 were I should have used  .25 natural  thread. It does looks  better. It will give me a chance to reposition some blocks for the tiller as well, that I said it will do lol.20231219_120213.thumb.jpg.417b18c9050c292162d02d1e00d2274e.jpg

Cap. Marvin says get the stairs done, don't  worry  about the masts. I have so much to do lol. I am loving it.

I don't remember where I saw this, the builder made the mast off the ship. Being  a neanderthal lol I decided to give it a try. There is more room to move around  now lol.

There is so many great logs for the Pegasus, you should have a look at @giampieroricci wow, looking through  his log makes me laugh at mine lol. But I am having just as much fun as he is building mine . This modeling is so fun, she may not look pretty  but she's a beautiful ship to me. Thanks for looking in. And thanks for the logs MSW.

Sorry to hear about the family getting sick.   Take care of yourself while caring for them.

As for the blackening....  You can use Birchwood Casey Brass Black.  Works very well.

Hi Bob

Key point, you're enjoying yourself!!! That's all that counts! I enjoy your log for you having a laugh, at times, at yourself, and always look forward to your posts.

You asked me to be free about pointing out errors - these are for future reference rather than change what is now:

- Your anchor stocks are the wrong way around. The tapered sides should face the flukes, the straight side should be on top. Yours are the other way around.

- The Amati anchors have the wood grain running in the wrong direction on the stocks. It should be along the stock, not up and down - which makes logical sense. An up and down grain is going to see the stock snap. Blue Ensign captures this       in his Pegasus log.

- Your wheel rig is incorrect and the rope size is better, to my eye, in photo "One" than the next. The right rope size is about 0.4 mm. I'm amazed that you re-rigged this as, blimey, that must of been hard.

Plus sides, and lots of them, your model all comes together and the details mesh. Your anchor cables are of fit size to my eyes and lots of people underestimate their scale. From TFFM, I reckon them at 1.4 mm.

If you're going full hog on rigging I urge you to look at Blue Ensign's log. There is a hell of lot of stuff going on around the main mast that is going to be really fiddly later but can addressed now to simplify.

Look it doesn't really matter, there are things you can improve and there is always someone out there who knows more than you do. I'm only halfway there and I get pulled up on things that I didn't know - planking widths on ship boats - who would know? Someone does. The trick is enjoying it and you are motoring through this and clearly enjoying it!

Cheers

Alistair

Also tomorrow I will finish up the tiller. Yes I re did It again. Added two more blocks, now she looks just like the instructions.  Lol. I switched the rope again and went with a .75 natural  rope. Don't matter  I won't be doing it again even  if it is wrong lol.

So now it's time to black-in all the chain plates.  And the mast look really  fun to do . I can't wait lol.

I ordered  a new Pegasus  figure head, it took 9 days to get here from Italy  , not bad this time. I open the bag and dumped it all out, and would  you know it. I broke a wing right off the bat.20231220_143228.thumb.jpg.5264383b26971393e3f90b034b8e1fd2.jpg

Abandon  Shipyard !!! 20240113_142847.thumb.jpg.2fd6d520ae0a58aca7af358565302846.jpg Had to move all my builds upstairs.   Due to pests moving into the shipyard I have to shut it down, for several months. The family has been sick, but we are feeling better  all around. So I settled in on making the masts, and heard some scratching from the ceiling.  Yep , pests. Darn and I wanted to try and get my Pegasus done by the end of May. I was shooting for the end of May because that will be Three years that I have been a member of NRG and  MSW.

I have been having the time of my life. It is  just so much fun. I can hardly wait to get  better at this. I have learnt so much. At least I will be able to follow along with logs, it will give me time to catch up on some reading lol.

The first Mate  says to picture the enemy like this . received_1759696047845633.jpeg.1ff20d71a895ae75cde3d558143f3829.jpeg

But it's not working , I am so depressed about not building models, if I did not have so much to do I would go crazy  lol. Talk to you all when I can , Sea ya.
